Wide receivers Marquez Callaway and Jauan Jennings were largely spectators during Thursday's night practice, but they were going through individual drills normally on Friday. Callaway did not appear to be favoring the knee that had him limping a little bit on Thursday.

It was another maintenance day for both linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. and offensive tackle Chance Hall as they were among the group of players working out on the side with strength coach Craig Fitzgerald, and their statuses for Saturday's scrimmage appear to be up in the air.

On the offensive line, Drew Richmond and Ryan Johnson continue to work together on the right side, with the former at tackle and the latter at guard.

Smith has gotten work at left tackle during individual drills this week, and if Richmond indeed scrimmages on the right side, junior-college transfer Jahmir Johnson could get an opportunity with the potential starting lineup on Saturday.

Drew Richmond was still at right tackle today, with Jerome Carvin getting a lot of reps at right guard.

Several freshman defensive lineman appear to be hitting a brief wall a little more than halfway though camp. John Mincey had to run a suicide and both Kingston Harris and Greg Emerson were getting chewed out by Tracy Rocker.

The secondary — split into corners and safeties — were doing ball drills while we were out there. Both Nigel Warrior and Theo Jackson dropped their reps. In that group, Trevon Flowers has the most natural ball-skills in the unit.

I continue to be impressed with Kingston Harris on the defensive line. He moves so well for his huge size (6-foot-3, 316 pounds) and he’s already made several strides since the first few days of fall camp.

Although I don’t think he’ll see a ton of action this year on defense, I think Shanon Reid has surprised me a little bit at inside linebacker. I like the skills he brings to the table, and it’s clear from practice reps that he’s done enough to be considered in the two-deep there.

Interesting note here: Brandon Davis was working a little with the safeties today in what few moments of practice we got to see.

I think Kenneth George Jr. is improving with every practice and is developing into a player UT’s coaches are looking at more in the cornerback group.

If it wasn’t for Jonathan Kongbo making the move to outside linebacker, I think Jordan Allen would be starting at that position.

Is it just me or does every practice thread have some variation of the D Line getting chewed out? Hopefully come September it all gels together

No mention of the QB's or Receivers….
I think we see a huge difference in line play on both sides of the ball...
I cannot wait for Sept. 1....

Rocker is hard core so I wouldn't expect much to change with the season starting. You don't win the Lombardi or Outland by slacking off in practice. He expects a lot from his players because excellence demands a lot. Good for him.

Question, it seems like off-season injury is down? Am I right? Or am I not paying attention. I know there are players with lingering injuries from the end of last year but I hvent noticed any during camp. It’s very refreshing.

what was JJ held out for ?
Probably knee soreness.

If the game was today I'm sure he would play. It's a long season and our 2nd most proven player on the roster can probably afford to get the benefit of the doubt on a few maintenance days from the coaching staff.

I am ready, as we all are, to see the Vols re-establish the line of scrimmage on the D side, and fire off the ball (put a hat on a hat), and move someone on the O-line.
I fully expect orange in the WV backfield early & often.
All I really ask of CWF is to have them playing aggressive and to actually get a push (no more “namby pamby”, let’s just stand in their way zone schemes).
What a concept, attack, attack, attack
This is going to be a fun year regardless (I don’t let this stuff affect me like it did 15-20 yrs ago), but if we can manage to stay healthy, it could be real fun! Go Vols -

Have you ever known a DL coach that was NOT chewing out his underlings during fall camp?

I never had a coach that stop chewing me out and telling me that I could do better in practices . Even when I was happy with myself they would be like .. that’s great now if you would just do that every play blah blah blah 🤨

See
Still gonna be our biggest weakness imo. Followed closely by the O Line.
Seems like rockers philosophy is to break them down to the max and hopefully build them back into relentless, confident monsters. Hopefully his approach works. Running out of time to break them down and start building them into monsters

It seems like everybody says something that indicates that they believe that Kongbo showing that he is pretty good in his position is a bad thing for the team. Even the writers seem determined to show that they are fans of a particular Prospect. I'm glad we have a coach that has his own criteria for team selection.
