hear this about UK literally every year. 28yrs Old and seen us lose to them 1 time. Last yr showed how far apart the two programs really are. Lose Zadarius Smith and Bud Dupree and now theyre magically better on Defense? GTFOH

I think we have to be careful at looking at last year as a gauge as to where the 2 programs are. Don't get me wrong; I think we are the better team/program, and we are certainly more talented. But last year UK was playing their 8th straight game without a bye, including their 7th SEC game in that stretch. OTOH, we were coming off a bye week where we had a chance to get our legs back and get some people rested, as well as having 2 weeks to prepare for UK. I think UK was gassed and beaten up badly by the time of that game. They had just gone through a gauntlet with no depth. I think we are clearly the better team, but I'm not certain we were really 50-16 better than them last season.

i know i remember thinking last year i was very unsure of what to expect against UK. at the end of the game, i remember thinking "man, we just killed KY, didn't see that coming".

so yeah, i don't think the result last year matched the pre game expectation. it was a must win for us to keep bowl hopes alive. i for one was pretty anxious and elated at the result.

Solid points. if you are truly gauging results off of last season, UT has no shot vs OU. things change! not sure who will win, but I don't expect OU by 24. also, Bama will be facing a similar scenario when they play their 8th straight game w the Vols coming off a bye week. I know Bama has depth, but it is something that could help UT in that one.

Can someone dig up what this site predicted us to finish in 2014?

CFN 2014 had us 72nd in Nation last year and CFN has us 16th this year sandwiched between Auburn 15th and Arkansas 17th
I cannot understand how we get to 16th with a 7-5 record.
On this write-up they did not give projected W's & L's

I can see the Vol's going anywhere from 5-7 to 9-3 for 2015, injuries or the lack thereof and the availability of Von Pearson must not be overlooked

We are more talented than UK at every position. Playing at Commonwealth is not really much of an advantage for them.

I think their prediction is much more reasonable if you change the UK game to a win. Although I think we beat UF if we beat OU. We will have too much momentum and our guys will play out of their minds in the Swamp.

5-7 has to be the result of key, major injuries. 5-7 puts Butch's job in jeopardy IMHO.

It is interesting how a team like KY that has a back loaded schedule. They start fast, generate a lot of unwarranted noise, and then tail off when they start playing the tougher teams.

Our schedule, on the other hand, seems always to be heavily front loaded, and this one is no different. We will do well to get through the first half at 4-2. But 3-3 would not be catastrophic for those of us who see the big picture, because the back half is more manageable.

If we get out to a really strong start, though, watch out because it could be a special season.

In fairness we beat USCjr, should have beat UF on the road. Two games in the first 6 we were expected to lose. 5-1 was still better and we were possibly robbed of 6-0. We played very close games against the #1 team in the country and (right after the UT game) against UL. Our problem was inconsistency and youth. Our defense was bad all year, our specials teams was terrible (especially in big moments like the MSU game). We lost two NFL players but we won't be any worse statistically.

The problem was some weeks we'd absolutely not show up. LSU, UT, Mizzou. All games against opponents not on the top of their game. We could easily have had 8 wins had we beaten UL and UF like we could have. One play away in those two games would have given us a chance at 8. Our schedule is reversed this year but we have a good shot at 6 imo. Would need a UL and SEC upset.

I hope we can finally get the gator off our back with a win. Good lord, if not we may need to change divisions.

I want to stomp a mud hole in Mizzou, sick of them already. Maddymalk, Maddymalk,Maddymalk . Mushburger and the talking heads love to spew that name.

And KY, stomp a mud hole in them as usual. They'll go bowling, but not at our expense.

Not sure I understand their logic... we beat Oklahoma, and a "9-3"(heavy on the quotes here) South Carolina team, 9-3 Georgia team, but lose to a 5-7 Kentucky team? Makes sense.

He'll still be back in 2016 even with that record.

He will be, agreed. But he'll return with an angry fanbase with their collective "long knives" drawn. Year 3, with all the things he has in his favor has to be a significant step forward. 5-7 with our circumstances and expectations would be a MAJOR step back.
