Vols Picked to Finish 5th in SEC

Somebody educate me on LSU. Why are they ranked so high? They lost a ton of production to the NBA, including some real monsters in the paint, as well as Tremont Waters, one of the SEC's best PGs. This year they are pretty short overall as well, especially compared to last year. Lots of 5 star wing/guard players? I know they still have Skylar Mays and Javonte Smart, but I don't understand the hype? Somebody 'splain it to me, Lucy.

I feel the same way about UF. I'm guessing they've got some star power on their rosters.

Ditto. I don't see it either.

Trendon Watford (5*), James Bishop (4*), plus 3x transfers.

That brings up another interesting storyline - I'll be curious to see if the referee/fan from the LSU game refs an SEC game this year. He should be done in this conference. That still irks me.

I wouldn't be surprised if auburn struggles this year without their two 3 pt spark plugs.

With all UT lost, I can't see us at 5th. I do think they'll look much better in February though and predict a good SEC tourney showing. Maybe a bubble team.

I'll take it because it means an NCAAT appearance (most likely).

I know "just" making the NCAAT shouldn't be a big goal but for this season I would consider it a win given the uncertainty we have going in.

I’d say Florida and Kentucky are a step above.

LSU is kind of alone at the 3 spot....but not too far from the top two or the 4-5.

I think Tennessee and Auburn are almost interchangeable at the 4-5.

Bama is also real close with Auburn and Tennessee’s (for me).

Also I wouldn’t go to sleep on Georgia (they may surprise some).

It’s funny to see some football fans dip into BB. Thinking this is not a solid tourney team or #5 in SEC shows a little lack of BB understanding IMO. This team has one of the best backcourts in the country and college BB is largely G driven. Two all-conf level Sr’s, add a big lefty 5*, plus other quality pieces on the bench means this will be a good team, at minimum.

It's funny listening to TN fans trash Will Wade and call him slimy. He certainly is. I'm no Wade fan at all. I think he's scum, but there was a time where this board/fanbase in general were really high on Wade and wanted to see him be the coach here.

To be fair, that was before all the stuff came out about him like they have. Most Vol fans probably had no idea what kind of stuff he was capable of/had been up to years ago.

And there have been those at times on here who wished Barnes wasn't so squeaky clean. Implying it was the reason he couldn't get the 5 stars. Go figure.

Yeah some growing pains this year. The only way I can see us overachieving is if Josiah James comes out and dominates from the jump. Otherwise we'll be depending on Turner and/or Bowden to step up and become a go-to guy, and also on some unproven bigs.

Did you never order something at a restaurant then after the plate arrives you wished you’d made a different selection?

Pretty easy actually. They didn't lose anyone of significance from last year's roster, brought in a solid recruiting class, and landed the most coveted grad transfer of the last two cycles. Their roster is very, very good. I tend to believe Mike White is overrated and a pretty poor in-game coach, so what he does with that talent this year remains to be seen. But, it's not hard to see why the media loves them. They have a lot of talent. We just don't know what Mike White will do with it. That's partially why I was surprised to see Blackshear pick Florida.

On paper, Florida is clearly, at least, the 2nd most talented team in the conference. They have maybe the 9th best coach in the conference. Which one has the greater effect on the other will determine their finish in the standings, but I think Florida has a great mix of talent and experience. There is no real debate about that.
