If LSU does go down hill and we can somehow beat them we may have a chance to back into the SECCG like in '04. That's if Fla and Ga lose an extra game and, this is a BIG (and) Butch and Co don't get scared of a rematch with Bama like last year and start throwing games.

Lotta (AND's) in there but better that if's and but's.

We didn't "back" into the SECCG in 04....we went 7-1 in conference only losing to Auburn. That's not backing in. Maybe you were thinking of 07.

There is no such thing as backing in to the SEC championship. If you win the division, you win the division. Period.

I've heard some UF fans talk about backing into the SEC East last season. I don't necessarily disagree with them considering how it played out. But I generally agree with if you win the division you win the division.

They didn't back in to anything. They won the division. We didn't take care of business, Georgia didn't take care of business. So they won. Period.

Although we left meat on the table last year, must beat UGA and UF again to even think about contending.

BTW, I'd almost certainly highlight at UK this year. They keep recruiting and improving and will be all fired up in Lexington this year.

Yep, KY did in fact "keep recruiting." And the annual recruiting rank trend definitely supports that fact.

Our path ! Undefeated! Tennessee is a lot better than anyone knows ! Last year was talent with no discipline and this team is talent plus capable coaches and a pissed off VOLS team ! Story of the year , TENNESSEE FOOTBALL BABY!

So in four years CBJ couldnt instill discipline in his most talented football team? Interesting.

Hopefully LSU continues their trend of late-season swoons by the time they get to Knoxville.

How about this. If we best GT on the road and then beat everyone else then we will be undefeated and go to the SEC Championship. If we win that, we go to the playoffs. If we win all those games, we are Nationals champions! 😂😂😂

Beat Georgia and Florida and win the east. I know it didn't happen last year but it did. Would not happen two years in a row.

Your perspective misses an essential element of human nature, for most people.

Discipline is like the brake on your car. If you're not pushing on it, it's probably not engaged.

There are a rare few folks who have really strong self-discipline, do not need an external force (like a coach) constantly keeping them focused. Not very many of those among the 18-24 year old male population, though.

A program can have perfect discipline one year, and poor discipline the next, and good discipline again the next after. With many of the same players all three years. It's all a question of whether the coaches are keeping the players focused.

I'd say that our current coaching staff is really awesome at off-field discipline, keeping the focus on academic success, community service, staying out of trouble.

Their track record has been more spotty when it comes to on-field discipline. Some of the four squads we've fielded during the Butch years have shown great on-field discipline, and some....like 120...not so much.

Agree with both of these points. There have been very few off the field incidences and when they've popped up they've been dealt with swiftly.

On the field I think back to 2013. While that team wasn't very talented Butch did a good job with the on-field discipline. Very few penalties that season.

One particular memory from that season is when UT was lining up to kick the winning FG vs. S. Carolina. The line held their stance for an eternity. I was waiting for a false start...10 second run-off, ball-game but the players stayed focused.

Then there was last season. I think Butch trusted his mature team too much and it backfired.

With the talent of this team with the discipline of '13, UT can win the East.

Beat UGA and UF. That's the first and most important step. Then you only need the winner of their game to lose one more regardless of what UT does with the West.

However, IMHO, this is the year Jones breaks through in the West. I think he will beat LSU in part by outcoaching them.
