Vols pass D

Like i said. Need somebody to scheme in the second half. We always look phenomenal in the first half because we have the talent but then we get outcoached in some of these instances because our defense just doesn’t adapt well and a lot of that comes down to the secondary.
The secondary having third and fourth string in also might have something to do with it.

When you have 2 starters out including an all american and still hold them to 7 points with 2nd string in its about the best you can ask for. Theres probably 1-2 teams max in the country that could lose both of their starting corners and still play the pass defense you guys are expecting from them.

Is he though? Maybe some, but there definitely should be some concern
We should be concerned sure BUT you’ve got a true freshman starting at corner. That alone limits a lot of what you can get away with. Banks though is usually good for one or two masterful defensive games and a bunch of clunkers as well.

We get up big like today people are going to be pissed bc we’re going to play soft coverage and try to get TOs and force them to burn the clock. Banks will selectively send pressure at times too but it’s just not enough for some people. We’ve had a lot of plays where the qb should’ve been tackled in the back field or a runner or wr should’ve been tackled behind the LOS but we’re not sound tackling. I guess that part burns my ass more than the coverage deficiencies bc some of those are understandable.

Considering our 3-4 string unit was out there most of the second half against their 1’s I was not surprised. Great job by the staff to give our young players some valuable time. So my answer to the starter of this thread I came away very pleased with our overall performance. And we were able to get a lot of folks some valuable playing time. Folks need to learn how to actually access an entire games body of work, instead of looking at the final points. GBO!

Hopefully is wife’s stepson has hacked his VN account!!!!!

If not, Ditch about a slow job on the beach eating ice cream.

Jezz man, if we blew them out 100- 0 would you ditch about the special teams giving up 100 yds of kickoff return yards?

Yall are acting like we’re playing 5 walk ons back there. We are statistically one of the 10 worst secondaries in the country. I would settle for being about the 100th worst.

We are giving up 300 passing yards a game and the talent level is nowhere near that bad.

Kitna is a legit QB. Remember he was at Florida before he was caught doing some “questionable” things. He played the entire second half against our benchers. Maybe we should’ve just left the starters in and risked injury to win 85-7 so some of you would get off of the diving board.
Quit spewing facts. I'm with ya!

All they did was throw the ball because they couldn't run it. I'm not worried about it.
Exactly. We held them to around 25yrds rushing for the entire game and they had an insurmountable lead by the mid 1st Qtr. UAB had no choice but to chuck it all game.

UAB ended up with around 400yrds of total offense. I don't care enough to crunch the numbers, but around 250 of those yrds (mostly passing) were in the 2nd half. So our 1st team D held them to around 150 yrds & 7 first half points with 4 starters out.

This game was a glorified scrimmage. I see no meaningful conclusion to draw from the game one way or the other.

I've accepted our defense probably isn't as good as last year (top 5), but hold out belief it can be top 20.

I said last week after the secondary was burned time and time again that Kitna would probably get 300+, at least 250+! Kitna throwing for 364 yards is totally unacceptable ( even with a lot of the second and third team guys seeing lots of action in the second half )!!! How do all of you feel now after talking about how good Banks and Martinez are against the pass??? Top Tier SEC QBs are going to light up this secondary all year long!!! We better continue to put up 40+ to be in the game vs good SEC teams!!!!
The only thing is their defense is - - playing without first stringers. The silver lining in this is a lot of younger and less experienced guys are getting a whole lot of playing time.

Have not read the 1st post in this thread, BUT, if our D ever wants to be serviceable, they need to watch at the 3:30 mark 3rd quarter in the Miami/Gators game.

Great view of the Florida DBacks play. Heads turned looking at the QB (all of them)! What happened? Beautiful interception. I have only seen a few DBacks in orange with their head on a swivel like that over many years. All of ours needs to see that play.

Side note: Huge mistake letting Jakobe Thomas leave. He’s playing possessed.

Keep whining. You obviously don’t know about our injury situation.

No one is saying to leave in the starters! UT doesn't have an ELITE D! It never has under Banks! The point is many on this board act like he is a great DC when he continually gets outcoached and gives up tons of points to above average QBs with very good passing games!

Last year’s D may not have been “elite”but it was pretty darn good, if memory serves.

I agree with you on our offense is going to need to score maybe at least 45 points a game, and we can do it if Hype doesn't let up.
