Vols pass D

Really? Interesting. I seem to recall them only giving up 30+ points the entire season; once to Georgia and to the eventual national champion Ohio State. Also held Bama, Florida and Oklahoma to under 20. Who in your opinion was a good SEC team that the 2024 defense sucked against?
Look at not only points, but yards and the whole story. Factually, those numbers will show that our defense was a big stumbling block against good SEC teams.

Those three teams were not ELITE Os! LOL

You aren't an ELITE D when you can't defend the pass! How did that ELITE D look against good passing teams? What good passing team did UT defend well against last year?

I’d say Florida was a good passing team, Bama wasn’t a bad passing team, Vandy had Pavia and was completely shutdown. We had good corners last year and got good pressure on the qb so most teams weren't able to pass well on us.

Georgia was successful because we got zero pressure on Beck and Ohio State was successful because we decided not to even show up. Bottom line we can agree to disagree. To me, a power 5 defense that’s top 5 in the nation is elite.

That kind of stuff doesn’t work in college football transitive property and stuff. Look how Georgia played against Austin Peay
Exactly, APs D faired better than UTs D according to the scoreboard! Until UT has a secondary, there will be no deep run in the playoffs or any SEC Championships. Many of you just don't want to take off your orange lense glasses to see it!

At the end of the day the scoreboard is what matters. Monte Kiffin made a living off of bend but don’t break defense. If you’re averaging less than 25 points per game in the best conference in the county, your defense is solid. Just my opinion.

Very basic today….los of players played. When you do this blown assignments are going to happen. I wouldn’t read to much into today.
I agree with you in part. But, when Syracuse passes more vs UT than Uconn, UGA lights up the secondary, and UAB lights up the secondary (even though UT played most of the DBs on the roster ). It is still a major concern. UT hasn't proved it can defend the pass whatsoever. It is looking like the OU, Arky, Bama, and possibly VU QBs are going to light up this secondary!

Right now UT is averaging 44 with UGAs O being very good while not proving to be at the top of the SEC. We will know more later. I agree points allowed is the definite staple of the D. But, the secondary play will allow most SEC teams to score in the 30s the way it is looking right now!

Right now UT is averaging 44 with UGAs O not considered to be the top in the league!

Dude, just take the rest of the season off. Bottom line you started a stupid thread about a cupcake opponent, showed your ass and now resorting to strawmen arguments and mom jokes. You tried arguing with me about last years defense, I gave you a rebuttal and now you’re posting “bu-bu-but this year they aren’t good!”

Yeah, no joke. As I stated they’re missing 5 starters and in today’s game they played backups the entire second half. Just enjoy the win. Best of luck to you in your plight

The starters gave up 7 points, the game was over at halftime. The starters gave up a total of about 124 yards in the first half. You are over reacting to 51 attempts in garbage time against 3-4th string true freshman playing zone defense.
If the second and third string DBs on a very solid SEC team can't defend the 1st string for UAB, it is a problem! How did that 1st string secondary do versus an average UGA QB? So far, Stockton hasn't proven he is a top tier QB in the SEC. Maybe he will be. If he isn't, the secondary will get ripped to shreds by top tier SEC QBs!

I said last week after the secondary was burned time and time again that Kitna would probably get 300+, at least 250+! Kitna throwing for 364 yards is totally unacceptable ( even with a lot of the second and third team guys seeing lots of action in the second half )!!! How do all of you feel now after talking about how good Banks and Martinez are against the pass??? Top Tier SEC QBs are going to light up this secondary all year long!!! We better continue to put up 40+ to be in the game vs good SEC teams!!!!
Missing our best two CB’s and 2 of our best 3 DT’s. The UAB QB really did do anything against our starters. (42 to 7 at the half!!! See I can use exclamation marks too) Waste of time to draw conclusions when they are piling up yards and a few points against our scout team.

If we get McCoy back . . . It all changes. If not, yes . . . Our pass defense is really bad and SEC teams will put up video game numbers.
That shouldn't happen with the number of DBs UT has recruited in the last 2-3 years! That tells us all we need to know about the development of MOST of the DBs under Banks and Martinez's leadership! I can't understand how many can't admit it is a major issue! It is not like they aren't competing against an ELITE O in practice! They should be much better!

You will be eating those words when several SEC QBs throw for more than 300 yards vs the first team D!
I was in your camp last week vs Ga. Then a very level headed, logical friend that I have a lot of respect for goes-“You realize we have 4 defensive starters out, two of which are corners and all may play on Sunday one day”

He coaches the corners. Banks has the safeties and implements the scheme.
Like i said. Need somebody to scheme in the second half. We always look phenomenal in the first half because we have the talent but then we get outcoached in some of these instances because our defense just doesn’t adapt well and a lot of that comes down to the secondary.
