Vols Open 9.5 favorite against Florida

If we're going to win, I think we cover. To me, there's almost two outcomes to this game. Either we dominate it, win by 14+ or we are in a close game and lose by some ****ty miracle play at the end because there's a curse or something.

This is exactly why every one should stay away from this.

One could very easily say either team will come out clicking but you could also make a case as to why both teams come out an fall flat.

I don't know, it's all up to our offense. I think our D can hold them for a while but that can only work for so long unless you're the Broncos.

Team 119 went into the Florida game with no real understanding of the longterm collective Florida angst shared by Vol Nation. In light of the way the 2015 game was lost to what we all know to be an inferior team, I think they now get it. Team 120 is going to bring it all, questionable coaching be damned...

I'm confused. What has Florida done to convince you they are any good?

I mean if destroying Kentucky is the barometer to instill fear then we musta been world beaters the last 2 years dropping 50 on them?

We'll destroy the gators next satyrday 34-13. Easy cover.

Exactly. They have proved nothing at this point. They struggled against Mass who App State would beat by 3 touchdowns at least. And KY Jelly??? Pffft. Tennessee rolls them up like a wet carpet. Nothing to see here folks. I do think it will be closer than you say though. The line is about right as it sits IMO.

I have watched our games several times at this point, and have watched both FL games as well. After doing that I am less concerned with FL.

They really struggled with UMass QB. He was mobile enough to give them a lot of trouble. Dobbs is far more of a run threat, though probably less of a pass threat. They haven't had to deal with a running back even close to the strength of Hurd yet either.

Florida has a good defense. Tabor, though a classless punk, can play ball. They have decent speed on the edge, but I actually think we can find some success there, which is a good thing since we love the bubble screen and trying to beat the defense to the edge with Kamara. Both UMass and KY had pretty good success at running off tackle. Both were playing with backs that don't hit the hole nearly as hard as Hurd. The main thing about their defense is that it is pretty much untested. They have not seen anything like the speed and power that UT will bring. Sure, we have Oline issues, but we have three HUGE weapons in the backfield. I just think we are going to be hard to contain, even if we do stay primarily one dimensional. To me the only difference between a really run heavy UT and a more mixed attack is the total points scored, mainly due to just fewer plays.

Their Oline is bad. Really bad. The only reason it looks better than ours is that they have faced a pretty vanilla pass rush, and played two team that are so worried about Florida's speed that even their blitz looks hesitant. ASU had a very fast front. VT mixed up the blitz package a lot, with a lot of speed rushers coming on delays. Florida could easily do that as well, but I honestly see them as closer to VT than to ASU. ASU's small, quick, Dline is just not what our Oline is built for. The rest of the team we face will be bigger and slower. We still need a large improvement there, no question.

Del Rio is the real deal. He can sling it. He does still seem to make some poor decisions, and once again, he hasn't faced a good DB or Safety yet. Our secondary could make him look far more average that UMass or KY. He can't run. At all. Same for the rest of the backfield. They are ok. There is not a single great running back on FL's team.

The FL player that impresses me most is their kicker. Kid plays with heart and has one hell of a leg.

Both UT and FL are pretty one dimensional teams from a talent perspective. FL has far more talent through the air, we kill them on the ground. If our secondary holds up, and I think they will, we control the entire game. I don't think they can stop our ground game. We pass just enough to keep the box open, and I don't even think we need to look downfield.

This game will go a lot like Mizzou last year. I don't think it is going to look pretty, but I think it will actually be a pretty commanding UT victory.

We just can't beat ourselves.

Both teams have games that they should win by large margins Saturday. Ohio is definitely more of a threat than North Texas. I wish North Texas had more of a ground game, it would be good to see if another small school could rush on FL.

Two other huge advantages for UT....
1. Neyland is going to be rocking
2. Florida's first road game

28-14 Vols. Game not as close as the score. All rushing TDs for UT, at least one with Dobbs. Ball rarely on UT's side of the 50, FL gets lucky with some blown coverage long balls.

Yep! Del Rio is a damn statue. That is bad news VS the Vols defense.

Jennings, Malone & Williams are all deep threats that can keep Florida from stacking the box. If Florida can simply line up and cover man to man with a single high safety or a cover 1(keeping 8 in the box), then I think we lose. Our line can't block an eight man front consistently, if at all. To win we need to throw it well enough to make them back off the line and play cover two or some sort of double zone (which I think we can run against). If we hit a few early passes this game goes our way. But if we struggle to throw from the outset I think we'll also struggle running it, and we lose.

Little heavy...Be interesting how money moves this one

Little heavy? I'd take out a second mortgage to bet this line....if I were a betting man. No one in their right mind would bet UT in this game. I'll believe it when I see it.

Frankly, I won't be shocked to see UT lose to Ohio. I've seen UT lose several "sure wins" over the years since the 60's. Cup up. This is Tennessee we're talking about.

I like your logic. It all comes down to how clean they can keep Dobbs. If he has some time he's actually a pretty descent passer. And we saw some signs of a scamble drill when he hooked up with Kamara for the TD Saturday night. But you are dead on with what Florida would like to do, 8 in the box and singled up on the outside. Maybe this can be Crooms coming out party. If they are singled up outside he would be man up on a safety in the seam. Might have some LB help underneath but down the field would be open if Dobbs has time to get it off.

You really think anyone fears our "deep threats"? I'd play man on the outside and stack the box. Dare Dobbs to beat us with his arm.

So far, Dobbs has hit JJ & Malone over the top in both wins. I'm not sure if we can do it against Florida or not. But I am sure that if we can throw it up the sidelines successfully we will blow them out of Neyland next week.

Not sure if Via Tech feared our passing game before the BoB. Ask them how they feel now.

I thought it would be more than 9.5---with UT playing at home in front of 105,000--del rio will be scared out of his mind and make some big mistakes early---UT should roll--33-13.

Agree. I thought it'd be around 12.5, anyways UT dominates from start to finish. 31-13

With "fans" like you, who needs trolls. You need to rethink your devotion to the Vols and maybe go root for Bammer.
