Vols on Penn State Board

The entire country has condemned PSU. The big ten or twelve will also impose sanctions on PSU.

Out of curiosity (and wanting to enjoy a slight bit of schadenfreude) I went over to look at the Penn State message board on Rivals. It reminded me of the night Kiffin left and other fan bases started to show their true colors (and as**s) on Volnation. What made me embarresed was the fact that a majority of those smearing it in their faces were members of Volquest. Really guys? I admit that Paterno did something completely and unforgivably awful, but coverups happen at every university and I wish we as a fanbase could show a little more class for opposing fans who weren't involved. Besides, its Penn State? Are we really still butt hurt about the Outback Bowl?? Let's stay classy, Knoxville.

Penn State is the only big ten team Tennessee has lost to since 1981..yeah,ass sore but not so much to be an ass at a time like this...

Put it in perspective..Tennessee self imposed a four year death penalty on themselves upon Fulmers dismissal..scholy numbers similar to State Penn's coming up..but not as punitive..

Regardless of who is affected, the NCAA HAD to act here.

i disagree. it will not change anything and punishes 100 undeserving people for every 1 bad guy. do you think next time a football coach at some random school wants to rape a kid he will stop and think "oh wait, penn state lost some trransfers, i better control myself"

No, I don't think it will stop an assistant coach who wants to rape a kid. However, I absolutely think it will stop an entire university administration (head coach, member of board of trustees, athletic director, etc.) from covering up that rape, which was the real issue here.

If one kid had been raped that would have been bad enough but it was the actions of the university leaders, not the pedophile that is more disturbing - they did nothing to stop it, even half supported it by continuing his access to the university

so yes, this punishment will get into the minds of university officials thinking of doing a coverup of this sort of crime and hopefully will prevent them from acting in the same evil way the Pstate administration did

I wonder if the nation is this upset about the actions of Sandusky, or just enjoys seeing other historical programs in trouble. Yes what happened was awful but to me it is kinda insane at how much other teams want to see their program be destroyed.

I want to see it destroyed because the football program and Athletic Department is infected with people that are willing to look the other way while they let a child molester prey on innocent children in their department. That is sick, disgusting and wrong.

I know that a lot of people there truly had no idea...but I also know that a lot more of them did and did nothing.

This goes WAY beyond any sports rivalry.

I don't think any opposing fans should be on PSU message boards taunting them over this. If UT fans are doing it, I'm frankly quite embarassed. The fans have suffered enough. Leave them alone to comiserate.

The crime the NCAA is punishing isn't Sandusky's raping of children. They are punishing a coach and program that covered it up. Yes, the players and fans are innocent victims caught in the crossfire, but it's no different than any other NCAA investigation. When those you put your trust in fail, you get punished as they get punished. It's how it works.

While I have some sympathy for the fans, I have much more sympathy for the young boys that were molested because JoePa and others took no action. My only complaint to PSU fans would be to stop blaming the NCAA and start laying the blame where it belongs. They worship JoePa and do not want to admit he covered up a serious crime. His actions, or lack thereof, allowed young boys to be raped by a sexual predator. Not only that, he allowed it to happen in their athletic facilities. People can argue he did what he was "required" to do, but any sane man knows he should have immediately picked up the phone and called the police at the first hint of a child being harmed. Apparently he was afraid it would tarnish his program's reputation. Now it just might destroy the program all together.

^This.

The reaction of the PSU students was priceless. It was like someone told them their puppy was hit by a car.

I grew up in Harrisburg, PA and had to deal with all those koolaid drinking fans so I've been sitting back with a smile on my face all day. Andd the worst part about these koolaid drinkers is the fact that they STILLLL dont get it.

GBO!

no players will be punished unless they choice too... the NCAA said all players and incoming recruits are free to go to any other school without having to miss a year. they are free to transfer, if they choose not too, then it is their own will.

Complete agreement. There has to be harsh actions used not only because of the nature of the crime but also to show a zero tolerance on this kind of thing. Is it fair that innocents are going to be effected by this for years to come? No. But it wasn't fair to the victims of sexual abuse to have it covered up either. There has to be actions taken by the NCAA bc of who committed the crime and where it occurred.
