maybe we offered Kirby Smart. He's not busy, because according to ESPN he's the DC at Ole Miss

No, it would be dumb of Chavis to demand more money. LSU would be absolutely fine without Chavis and he knows it.
He will get a raise after the season and no it wouldn't be dumb it is the way the game is played. Unless his agent is a jackwagon.

If we get Randy Shannon, it will be great, but I'd rather have Chavis. I think you have to ask permission to talk to current coaches, and there is no way we would have gotten permission to talk to him this week. When, and if, we do contact him, we're gonna know if Dave Hart has the balls we all hope he does. Hart should offer him the money he wants, and tack on Asst. Head Coach.

Don't buy it... Chavis would have at least used the offer for a bigger raise instead of just flat out turning it down.

And besides that, I don't think Dooley would try to pluck Chavis a week before the BCS NCG with a lateral move offer. I think that's a pretty big deal among coaches.

I remember Chavis as being a good coach. I also remember that in several games when we would get ahead he would go into that darned prevent defense and we allowed several teams to catch up to us and beat us because he would play not to loose. Remember beating Florida 35-14 at half tome and loosing the game 42-35.

Whew! Good thing he said no. Can you imagine as bad as we are having a DC that, after we gained a lead, would let the other team march down the field against us with that stupid philosophy of his.

Deep down I think he'd like to come back, but he's not stupid enough to ditch his effectively infinite job security at LSU to jump on Dooley's sinking ship at UT.

There is a Hyams rule. If he says it before it happens then you can be somewhere around 97.9% certain it will turn out differently. If he is ever accurate about something... it will generally be AFTER it is public knowledge.

I do not live in the area so could not listen to him if I wanted. But judging on the numerous things he's said that have been discussed here... I am being kind by saying he is 2.1% accurate.
