Vols not in Joel Klatt's Spring top 25

Klatt wasn't high on the Vols last season, then after two games of Nico playing against FCS competition he bought all the hype and had up in the top 5. Then he quickly dropped us as a fringe top 25 team. He is always a step behind and over-reacts when it comes to us. It is what it is. He just isn't tuned into the SEC as much.

With the unknowns at QB and having a young team, I'm not going to argue much about leaving us out of the top 25. I'm not high myself on the depth of this roster. Alot of inexperience and unproven talent. That's not to say I don't like the potential of this team. It's just that a few injuries could really set us back and we really need some young guys to step up big time.

Mike Matthews, Braylen Staley, David Sanders, Peyton Lewis, Jordan Ross, Isaiah Campbell, Edwin Spillman, Kaleb Beasley - I'm high on all these guys, but how soon can we realistically expect them to contribute at a high level against SEC competition? The offensive guys we are asking to be ready now. The defensive guys will need to rotate in and maybe even start if there is an injury. It will be fun to watch them, but I've learned sometimes it takes time to put it all together.

Doesnt hurt my feelings. Surprised to see a few teams so high though. Penn state, USCe, and FLA all ranked higher than I would imagine they should be. Specifically FLA considering their Qb hasn’t thrown a pass all spring.
Florida arguably will have the better team this year compared to many in the SEC including us, and Lagway looks to be the real deal. Whether or not they compete for the SEC championship seems like a tall order considering their schedule but 9 wins would not surprise me. They have built a good team.

I’d prefer to go into the season under the radar with low expectations. That’s just me.

This.

The small % of UT fans thinking we are gonna roll into the playoffs this year will be disappointed IMO. With replacing 80% of our WR production, 80% of the starters on the Oline, and being very young at LB...this was always gonna be a 9-3 type year WITH Nico coming back. 8-4 is the most likely result now according to Vegas. I think theyre spot on. We should be able to challenge for a playoff spot in 2026 though. Future looks great. Need to close this recruiting class in the top 10 or so again though. GO VOLS
