I think it was the national press who gave Beattie Feathers the nickname "The Bounding Antelope". I was not around then but I don't think it caught on.

It's not really a nickname but when Fuad Reveiz played there was a woman with season tickets near us who had the habit of shouting "Kick it, Herman!" anytime Fuad came on for a field goal attempt. Not sure where she came up with that one.

Nilo Silvan didn't need a nickname! His real name was awesome enough!
Doug Atkins never needed one.
Chuck Norris wore a pair of PJ's when he was a kid with Doug Atkins on them.
Doug was basically the Incredible Hulk on the football field. You could only hope not to piss him off bc there was nothing you could do to stop him.

Robert "Robo Meach" Meachem. By the way, did you see the guy at the NFL combine real name Smoke Monday?

Jarret "Give Them Six" Guarantano
Phil Krispy Kreme Fulmer
Steve "Concrete Shoes" Johnson
Wasn't Dobbs called Astro too?

Should we start a different threads of all the alternate names that Bumbling Bob has given to players over the years?

You might get more responses from names fans have given Bob over the years. But expect a few to be obscene.

Did he pick that up before he left Knoxville? Went to Bearden one year behind him and followed him at UT and don’t recall that till his MLB days. Anybody got a genesis time for sure?

Talked to him very briefly at a dedication thingy at Bearden a year or so ago and pretty much all his family close to him in Houston now. His twin sisters were in my class.

I'm not sure, but I believe he picked up the Scrap Iron nickname when he played for the Pirates.
