Vols new Offensive game plan

Kamara has single-handedly changed the kind of RB's the NFL is going to be looking for now. The duel-threat option.

I wouldn't say that. They just didn't know how good he was due to Botch. He was getting first round buzz and with more touches would have been drafted there.

They already value rbs like AK. David Johnson and LeVeon Bell are both great examples.

He said or someone said. lining up under center, FB, two TE set.

Something that I'm going to watch closely is how much of the Brohm/WKU offense (Tyson) Helton mixes into the USC/(Clay) Helton offense. I believe we will still have some spread concepts sprinkled in to take advantage of the recruits we've gotten the last few years.

Agree. Helton will bring elements of both. Throw into the mix ideas from Kiffin. Likewise, Brohm was heavily influenced by Petrino. Helton has lots of ideas to incorporate. I believe he will eventually use an uptempo pro-style offense with spread passing concepts when needed. The use of spread concepts will be more directed to specific situations rather than personnel. Helton's knowledge of passing concepts lead USC to use him for play calling on 3rd downs. Should be interesting to watch next season.

Agree that the OL will be a key next year. I think both Pruitt and Friend see the problems as well. That's why they have extended offers to OL prospects who can come in and help right away. There's at least one graduate transfer and as many as 3 Juco OL being offered.

Here's to hoping he won't ever be in a 3rd down situation...

1) powerful - big, mean, fast, and smart offensive linemen. Double TE and big fullback set to just blow the opposing defense back into their own end zone.
2) flexible - we have been too dang predictable and constantly sticking square pegs in round holes. I like CJP saying that he will "fit" the scheme to the talent available.
3) disciplined - NO MORE OFFSIDES OR MOTION CALLS IN THE FREAKING REDZONE!!! Penalties on both sides of the ball have killed us.

Thoughts on moving players? I've wondered why McKenzie wasn't moved to OL a long time ago. He is dominating as a blocker but, doesn't seem to fill holes, fight off blocks, or tackle well. Already talk of moving Byrd to defense. Others?

Obviously you need a balance attack. However a road grader line and a two back set to close out games would be awesome

I thought I heard something about a balanced offense with some two back sets involved.

Step 1: Find offensive linemen. Cupboard is virtually bare next Fall. Huge area of concern.

There's no way of knowing right now if the cupboard will be bare on the offensive line. Especially with the way JP is going after JUCO Olineman and transfers who can play immediately. Land just a couple of them and get the guys we already have healthy then it won't be near as much of a concern. We will have a better idea after this weekend with the JUCO Olineman and Cal transfer all coming in for visit's this weekend. I forget his name off the top of my head but one of the guys from PA is buddies with Trey and think we get atleast 1 JUCO Olineman committ this weekend and potentially more. Hopefully we can pull the Cal grad transfer too. Going to be a massive recruiting weekend.

Not so sure it's Just Kamara changing that. RB's with his size and speed come along every year and will continue to do so. Kamara is just another guy in a long line of that type of RB. There's nothing new or groundbreaking from AK. He's a great Talent at RB and can cause mismatches for a Defense but nothing any different than the numerous who came before him that are very similar.

Our whole defense will benefit from this coaching change. They will learn how to play angry and with reckless abandon which will be the exact opposite of the type coaching they all previously had. They won't be soft anymore and will be coached to play faster and at a completely different level than what they have gotten used to. Will definitely be eye opening and a culture shock to many of them. We will find out who are really SEC players vs ones that should have been recruited to the MAC and not here.

I never played Oline and don't really under stand all involved. I have a question for those who do. Could a different scheme and o style help the linemen we have?

Absolutely. Some players are better suited to play in a full blown spread offense while others are better suited to play in a more traditional offense. Not to mention having to make them more physical and getting the soft mentality out of them. Just like some guys are better run blockers than they are at pass blocking.

Not sure we see much or any FB play but definitely more 2 TE sets and lining up under center. Nothing drives me more crazy than seeing 3rd or 4th and less than half a yard but still see guys in the shotgun. We have seen it time and time again every Sat teams not able to get half a yard or less and line up in the shotgun instead of under center. Cannot for the life of me understand that thought process. Most teams now are gonna have versions of the spread incorporated in no matter what style offense they run. I really do like the offense Helton runs at USC and what Ala and Clemson run also. USC just didn't have the RB depth behind Jones to be as physical as they wanted. But combine Ala,USC, UCLA and Clemson's offense and you have the perfect style of offense. Especially USC and UCLA's passing and mix in the power run game like Alabama's and Clemson's. That's the combo I would love to see us have and believe before it's said and done it will be similar to that.

I don't care what he runs as long as we have more points than the other team. I will take 3-0 victories every single week.

I hope they run an offense designed to score more points than the opposition. This greatly increases your chances of winning.
