Vols Nationally Relevant

The morose that had hung over the UT fanbase the last several years, with the declining Fulmer regime, is suddenly gone with a young brash coach.

i guess i don't get it. youthful brashness is preferable to aging stodginess (ala pete carroll, saban, mack brown, and spurrier)? i guess if you can't call to mind the difference between flippancy and competence without consulting a dictionary, you might believe this.

You didn't just classify Spurrier as stodgy, right? :shakehead:

Kiffen should have said

"Sorry about saying that Urban broke a NCAA rule. Urban is just unprofessional and unethical at times. There is no rule about making A phone call. They rules say one a week from the head coach. The kids phone was ringing every three minutes. Sorry if I jumped to conclussions."

Well put...:clapping:

........and get over your Kiffin man crush. Ten months from now you will agree w/ me about LK.

You need to go drink some more Gatorade. You are expending more energy knocking him down then most are of supporting his decisions and actions. Go to Costco. You'll save buying bulk.

I will happily remain in the minority. I think there is a fine line between youthful and energetic, and childish and stupid. Calling someone a cheater(nice guy or not) when they did nothing wrong is childish and stupid. He could have had a little smack talk without making any accusations. I think he went too far and so does the SEC. Therefore this is not an out an out PR win, unfortunately there has been a lot of negative press too. Spurrier's jabs were effective because he made you laugh, and his record on the field backed up everything he said. Kiffin was not funny and doesn't have a record.

I agree....Kiffin could have hammered a nice on Meyer if he just changes his words a little....exactly the same message, but one that would not have needed an apology later.

As the days go by this issue is leaving a sour taste and is dividing many on this board. So all in all, he damaged his foundation in the SEC at many levels. Not a cool move, and there seem to be more popping up. He now is in print with a few lines about how this recruiting class does not mesaure up to his standards.....I feel bad for the young men who spend months trying to decide where to attend college, and then collectively be told that they are sub par as football players.

He needs to be mentored soon and harshly....maybe Monte can take him to the wood shed and get it worked out.

Maybe if you live in Tennessee, it would be difficult to understand just how irrelevant this football program had become nationally. There was no mention of UT Football on ESPN or CNNSI or anything except for the final score or a police blogger.

Does Lane running his mouth make this team better? Obviously not.

Does it get us more national attention? Yes

And more importantly in my opinion, he has pretty much tied his future and reputation to the Vols success, and I am very happy about that.

So to answer the OP's question, ND is relevant and they suck every year. Because we have been losing, we were on the path to becoming a team like Nebraska, Colorado, or even Washington (national title contenders in the early - mid nineties) We will never be relevant like ND where people talk about us win or lose. All Kiffin has done is put UT football in the media spotlight, and if he wins it will be a huge story, if he losses, who cares because a loss is a loss.

I think Kiffin's bad PR has outshined Summit's good PR. Her accomplishment should have gotten more attention than our football coach running his mouth at a breakfast. The fact that it wasn't a violation makes him look like an idiot. It seems like a lot of fans are so starved for some kind of football success that they will latch on to anything. Kiffin needs to learn to keep his mouth shut and let the scoreboard do the talking, cause in the end that is the only thing that matters.

Were you on the sports animal on Friday? Could have sworn I heard that same dialog from a caller.:whistling:

I don't listen to the Knoxville sports talk. You might have heard the same thing because she won 1000 games. That is something we should be more proud of than signing a recruit who may or may not pan out.

True, but I just hope Kiffin can run a football program as well as he runs his mouth.

Which one is it? Do I care more about Fulmer than UT, am I a troll, or do I love Fulmer. :dunno:
Children, this is why you shouldn't drop out of high school.

Go wax your pinto........and get over your Kiffin man crush. Ten months from now you will agree w/ me about LK.

We know the first and last ones are true but aren't sure about the middle one.

If you aren't ready and willing to move on and accept the new leadership then either be a fan of another team(quite possibily true already) or just crawl under a rock and quit trying to to drag us down. We don't need all of the negativity on here during this time of change. It's realy getting old reading your pessimistic views of Kiffin and our Fulmerless program. If you are a true Vol fan then you will support our new coach and hope for the best instead of talking like you will celebrate if he fails in the beginning. I didn't vote for Obama but you can rest assured that I will be supporting our country and hoping to see the best President that we have ever had.

Please no bashing. I am asking this to simply get a different perspective on kiffin/meyer situation and how it makes UT a relevant program again, I stated in another post what a talented group of coaches UT has assembled, but guys coaching is only half of the equation, just like last year coaching was only half of the equation. So please someone let me in on how suddenly the UT team that I have seen the past couple of years has suddenly became relevant in the SEC. I mean it is Feb. ,this is not Sept. ,and Kiffin has not even blown a whistle on the practice field.

The day after NSD, Kiffin stole the limelight with the 17th rated class. He's created a stir nationally that will last all the way until the Vols play against Florida. This is big for getting the Vols in the headlines and for recruiting (2010). And when the Vols beat Florida, it will make Kiffin prophetic.

We simply replaced an incompetent staff with a fully capable staff.

What was the news you have heard the past few days? LSU and Bama's top classes? Or UT and Lane Kiffin. That makes us "relevant"...
Posted via VolNation Mobile

No it doesn't. It just makes us the big news story for the week.

The only way we become relevant is to win and become a threat. Otherwise its nothing more than hype.
