After all the publicity the University has gotten in the past week, Mike Hamilton must be on Cloud 9.

CPS goes for, and hits, a career milestone that has Bob Knight broadcasting a women's game.

Men's hoops relevant in the SEC again with some help.

And HC Lane Kiffin, following MH's mandate to "say something about Florida" has been a major topic with the national media for two solid days. And the majority seem to like his brashness. All without a down being played.

Can you put a dollar amount on what this means to the school? It's an exciting time to be a VOL!

I agree with two of the three points. As to the third, it will make the prison-rape type score that CUM hangs on CLK that much worse. A day that will be much closer to the next NSD then today.

What CLK is squandering is the normal pandering from the national media about a coach's first year and the fans/recruits should give him time and the benefit of the doubt... yada, yada, yada. Now, the race from the Nat'l press will be who can write the best hit piece about how some cocky a-hole got his up and comings. Of the two, which do you think will sell better to recruits?

I think Kiffin's bad PR has outshined Summit's good PR. Her accomplishment should have gotten more attention than our football coach running his mouth at a breakfast. The fact that it wasn't a violation makes him look like an idiot. It seems like a lot of fans are so starved for some kind of football success that they will latch on to anything. Kiffin needs to learn to keep his mouth shut and let the scoreboard do the talking, cause in the end that is the only thing that matters.

Like it or not, football will garner more attention than women's hoops every time.

I respect your opinions but I think you are both in the minority in your thinking. This is not your daddy's UT. Times have changed. No one will ever confuse CUM with a nice person. I don't think he cares and CLK doesn't either. You don't think he knows the ramifications of what he does? I would argue he knows exactly what he's doing. If he screws up, he has plenty of experience around him to set him straight.

And let's not forget, It was Mike Hamilton that started it all at Kiffin's press conference. It's not just CLK.

I do not understand how a coach running his mouth on NSD, makes the football program relevant. I mean this sincerely how does this make you relevant and competitive on the field in the fall. I am guilty of asking things to stir people up, but I would really like to know how this makes the program relevant. I mean I could see if this were sept. and CLK was running his mouth after beating some teams that UT was not suppose to beat, but for goodness sake he has not even blown the first whistle on the practice field yet.

You guys need to break out your beloved faildozer for your new head coach. This is going to be a trainwreck over the next 3-4 years and as an LSU fan with a front row seat in Knoxville it is going to be FUN to watch. :)

Could be that he has coached college & pro level. Not HC at college but knows the ropes. He has a great staff that makes other programs nervous. Fick the media & bloggers that cant get a grip. More to say but who likes long posts.

I agree 100% the coaching staff is hands down wonderful, but as a fan you have to know coaching is only half of it. The same way coaching was only half of it last year. I still do not understand how assembling a coaching staff suddenly makes your program relevant. Alabama did not suddenly become relevant because they hired Saban and he is one of the best if not the best coaches in the country. Obviously he turned the program around and has become a contender. Long story short their is a alot of work in front of the Vols before they will become relevant in everyones eyes. Kiffin can talk to the media until the cows come home, but until he turns TN into the powerhouse (and I hate to say it, but they were a group of beast mid-late 90's) he is simply blowing hot air.

enjoy your moment in the sun because miles is one trick play away from being a total failure. 62-27 isnt too far away from 2:1

I am asking this to simply get a different perspective on kiffin/meyer situation and how it makes UT a relevant program again, I stated in another post what a talented group of coaches UT has assembled, but guys coaching is only half of the equation, just like last year coaching was only half of the equation. So please someone let me in on how suddenly the UT team that I have seen the past couple of years has suddenly became relevant in the SEC. I mean it is Feb. ,this is not Sept. ,and Kiffin has not even blown a whistle on the practice field.

We simply replaced an incompetent staff with a fully capable staff.

What was the news you have heard the past few days? LSU and Bama's top classes? Or UT and Lane Kiffin. That makes us "relevant"...

It's all about attitude and football is a take no prisoners lifestyle. If people can't handle that, then maybe they should take up knitting. The second Kiffin cares more about what an opposing coach thinks of him than taking every shot he can and letting his players know he will do everything to make them better, then he's become Fulmer.

I guess to me having Kiffin call out meyer does not translate into being relevant. Sure you are getting pub, but at what cost. Everyone that I know that is a TN continues to say everyone is talking about TN, but do you guys hear what they are really saying, I for one would not like this type of light shed on the program. Let me put it this way would you rather be "relevant" in Feb. or Nov., I for one would love this type of attention if it were Nov. and the team I supported was gaining attention from accomplishments on the field, but no one from TN has blown a whistle or put on pads.

What did we lose? No way we beat Florida this year...might as well let them know early we are going to be in the hunt in the next few years.

Players. You cannot suddenly change the level of talent you have to work with because of a change in coaching staff. Sure you can coach up some players but it only goes so far, you still need players that have the talent to execute the gameplans. TN simply does not have the players it once did.

Exactly. We don't lose crap. They beat the crap out of us the last two years while we sat around and let them do it. Screw the shut up, be quiet, and take your beating role. We've played that role long enough.
