Doubt Dickey gets much support considering how he left us. Ward was great but I don't think should be included.

No defensive lineman in the history of football was as good as Reggie, including Atkins.

Did you see either play in college or the pros? Both were special talents but Doug was better. He went on to be an NFL HOFer so he held his ground there as well. The deceiving part is the sack records which wasn't recorded in Doug's time. Otherwise he would get way more credit than he does.

I just saw Reggie but Reggie is also the NFL's all-time best defensive lineman. Speed, strength, size there has never been anyone as dominant as he was. Atkins should definitely be on the Vols Mt Rushmore but I can't imagine him being better since Reggie is a top ten NFL player at any position. Players would be Manning, White and Atkins and Neyland/Summit would be the coaches. One coach would be Neyland just because of football's place at the University and his national service.

Neyland, Ward, Manning, White.

The only other person I can see making a case for is Bernard King. I couldn't care less about women's basketball, but for those who do, I'm sure they'd substitute Summit in there for someone.

Otherwise, I don't see anyone else as an icon of UT sports. Eric Berry was an amazing player, but I don't see him as anywhere near the stature of the 4 I listed when it comes to the impact on UT Sports.

Edit: I never saw Atkins play at UT or professionally, so I can't really think of him in those terms, but he was obviously an incredible talent. I know a great many fans think he is the best UT football player of all time.

Atkins, White, Manning, Martin

2 on d, 2 on offense. All 4 did remarkable things with his talent while here. Could add berry if he stayed 4 years. Schemes by elder kiff killed berrys junior campaign.

could not agree more that EB is not in this discussion - great players/coaches lead teams to victories and inspire the best in others that causes teams to achieve at high levels - especially when you are talking about all-time greats they have to have won and won at a very high level

when you look at Neyland, Atkins, Manning, AWilson, Majors, and others they just won at a completely different level than EB did

and if EB is the best defensive player you have ever seen in Orange you haven't been watching Vols football very long - AWilson, LLittle, Henderson, etc would all give him a run for his money

Neither have you if that's what you are countering his post wih. Leonard Little wouldn't make first team all-defense for UT. Neither would Henderson. Both would have a tough time making second team
