The fact that the SEC has 10 teams in top 25 (record) is both exciting and disturbing. i know I will get flamed for this But I am an Vol through and through but also an SEC fan. I want the SEC to always represent and never lose OOC no matter who it is. The problem is this the chances of an SEC team having a good enough record to make the playoff's is kinda in danger with this many strong teams. It is totally possible for 2 teams with 2 (or more) losses to meet in the SECcG. I have seen it kinda spoken about but this could be an ugly season for the SEC. We likely have 2 or 3 of the best 4 teams in the country but because they have to play each other... I really hope Auburn or LSU can run the table (because they are not on our schedule)
Yeah, a number of articles have been written about competitive balance being the bane of a good conference.
But they've been writing articles with that theme for decades, and it always seems to work out in the end.
This early in the season, the poll voters aren't voting for the teams they think are the best, so much as trying to be careful not to leave out any Power 5 teams that might win their conference. That's the primary reason you see so many SEC teams in the poll right now.
It'll all settle out. Could the SEC be left out of the playoffs because we all give each other 2-3 losses? Sure. But that's been equally true in the BCS era, so we've lived with the possibility 17 years. And done okay out of it as a conference.
It'll be alright, we just gotta let it play out and see how we do. Just want the Vols to be one of the few standing at the end!
Go Vols!
