You are fortunate to have such good memories of your father.
My condolences to you and your family.

On Dec. 12th, 2015 my dad passed away at the age of 80 after a second heart attack in 4 months. My dad LOVED the Volunteers. He is the person who introduced me to Tennessee football. We used to listen to John Ward and Bill Anderson together. We would watch the games with the sound muted when they would come on TV so we could listen to the Voice of the Vols. We would watch The Bill Battle and Johnny Majors Show together when I was living at home. He is the guy that took me to my first Tennessee football game after getting tickets from Col. Tom Elam as many fans here in Union City did. He was looking forward to the Vols getting back on top. He enjoyed this season. I'm sad he is gone. I'm sad he won't get to watch his Vols play in the bowl game in January. I'm so happy he introduced me to the Vols. I've been a fan since 1966. Love ya Pops and GO VOLS !!!

My sympathies.

It's easy for me to say, but take comfort that he obviously loved you as he shared his interest and passion for Tennessee football with you. I'm sure he shared much greater knowledge and love with you as well. I hope you find comfort knowing VN is strong and it feels your sorrow. Peace and comfort to you.

Wow, great post. Thank you for sharing and so sorry for your loss. This post hit me hard in the fact that I think we take for granted our Saturdays in the Fall with our loved ones. Many of us have been fans for a long time and we became fans because someone told us about Tennessee football or maybe our mom or dad took us to a game or two when we were kids but ALL of us have a defining moment of being a TN fan. I have a 9 year old son and we have made so many memories together already taking him to away games and attending home games every weekend. Some day he will pass that tradition on to his son or daughter and so on. That's what its all about. Who will care in ten years we lost a 4th quarter lead? Instead of getting caught up in the wins and loses look to your left and right and cherish the moments. Go VOLS!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dad sounded like a awesome man that loved you very much. Just always remember, your Dad is always around in your memories and Heart. I agree with Dentons Ghost GBO, Your dads seats are going to be way better than ours to watch his beloved Vols play from here on out. GOD Bless your Dad and family.

I just want to echo what others have said, man. What you just described reminds me of my childhood with my dad. And being a fellow northwest Tennessean, it really gave me goose bumps to read that. My mind went back to the days when the Vols would come on tv and my dad would mute it then turn the radio on. Countless trips to Knoxville, as well. So sorry for your loss. Hold on to and cherish those memories that you made with him.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my father a few months ago as well. He had season tickets since the 60's. Our fathers were orange to the core. We can only aspire to be the kind of men/fans they were. My prayers are with you and your family. God bless and keep you all.
