Vols looking at grad transfer WR Velus Jones

Burrow had 2 years eligibility I believe Jones has only 1 year left. That is a huge difference in the likelihood of positive contributions. Also, only 1 QB plays where you may have 3-4 WRs on a given play.
False, a player can make a positive contribution in 1 year, so let’s just put that to rest.

Today on The Athletic, in amongst a larger Vols story, it was said that Tee to ole Miss was “more fluid” than has been reported. Not 100% sure how to read that, but Velus might not quite be here yet...

If he couldn't make it on the field at USC, why give him a spot on our roster? He would only have 1 year of eligibility.

USC's depth at his position is DEEEEEEEEP, and he wasn't being called upon despite his 2018 production. Why stay?

We just got a transfer WR from Nebraska, Miles Jones. Doesn't seem to have much playing time or stats. Played 1 game Freshman season and then got injured and missed rest of season. Played 4 games last year and recorded no stats.

I remember Palmer having some really big catches this (last) year. I don't know if I'm more surprised that Palmer had that many catches or that Callaway didn't have more. Probably the later.

I thought Callaway way grossly under utilized this past season.

I completely missed that.

Name the last WR you remember transferring to another school and have a big impact with only 1 year of eligibility. WR is a lot different than RB or OL or DL.

What’s your definition of big impact?
We’re looking for help and those that can contribute.

35 catches 503 yards 14 yards per catch
Would that be good enough?

Good deal. I am all in that it works out for him and the Vols.

Thank you coach. He wil be a transfer will cout against the 85 limit but not the annual 25 limit. We wante him out of high school and I doubt that we would take him unless Tee thought it was a goos idea. I see nothing wrong with it.

How do you know I'm a coach. Stalker. Seeing as though you're obviously not one. 25 is the limit, for high school, jucos, transfers, whether graduate or undergraduate. So, he will count, unless he's a walk on. Regardless of whether you see anything wrong with it isn't relevant, I simply see it as a waste of an initial counter on a 3 star/one year player when you can get 3 plus years from a more important, greater need and probably better overall talent.

I know this question wasn't for me but I like to pretend people care about my opinion... so I'll add that my opinion on Velus being a take isn't based on him making a big impact, it's based on him being a solid insurance policy. We're allowed 85 scholarship athletes on the roster, how many do we actually expect to make a big impact? Some of the guys we have on scholarship will never start a game unless it's on special teams, but that doesn't mean their scholarship was a waste or that they aren't important to the team. Depth is extremely important in the SEC.

Callaway seemed like he always made the big plays and JJ was JJ. Easy to over look Palmer. But he got some game.

I may be mistaken, but I think I remember when Palmer signed with us he actually had very little football experience. In his three years with the Vols, he has made tremendous strides (no pun intended) at WR. I believe he will be a MONSTER for us next season.

How much are you willing to give up to get him should be the question.
If the choice is between him and a freshman that will probably be a starting in 2 years, I will take the freshman.
If the choice is between him and a freshman who will just be a backup his junior/senior year, then I will take him.
