Martinez is a proven great DB coach. The players have to perform on the field and sometimes you just don't have the right guys. The players have to make the plays manHis guys just gave up 453 yards and 3 Tds against the 14th ranked passer in the SEC.
It's kind of hard to defend him at the moment.
Banks too.
I'll reserve judgement for another season or two. Martinez has lived off his mid to late 00s reputation as a DB coach for awhile now. It may be passing him by.Martinez is a proven great DB coach. To be honest these coaches have only been here a year and a half. It's a miracle we aren't Vanderbilt right now. We all know there are major holes still in the roster. We are 4-0 that's all I'm thinking about.....I'll reserve judgement for another season or two. Martinez has lived off his mid to late 00s reputation as a DB coach for awhile now. I believe this was a post about the outstanding job the OFFENSE is doing. It has nothing to do with the defense. If you wish to discuss the shortfalls of the defense, feel free to start a thread to that point. Must every positive thread be derailed?Tennessee will need a significant step up on defense to make any dream of playing in the SEC Championship a reality anytime soon, boat racing the opposition works against lots of teams, but not the the teams with plenty of points producers themselves, there is a reason the SEC is the most competitive football conference in America, it's the way the game is played
Danny White is the key to that. Why leave the AD that gave you your ticket to the big time, at a school with our type of resources? There is nowhere that can offer Heupel more security than this situation. All negative connotations aside we may have our Dabo…somebody who is here for the long haul and will build a program.Give him an extension after he guides Tennessee to the Sugar or Orange Bowl. I'm nervous that sometime in the future Oklahoma and Texas may come calling.
We may not be championship level yet, but I’m enjoying the process of getting there. None of it happens over night, but we quickly have an offense that can keep us in a game with anyone. It might not be this year but if we can ever have a slightly above average defense to go with this offense.......look out.

This team reminds me a little of the ‘89 team. You don’t really want to play us right now. We are just liable to ruin your season.
That quick turnaround is a testament to strong leadership from the AD down. Heupel getting what he needs is paramount to that improvement. It’s unlikely any coach in the country has a better relationship with a competent AD than Heupel does.I agree. For sure we have areas that need to improve and will cause us to drop some games eventually this season in all likelihood. That said, we can score points, and we can do so quickly. That makes for exciting and fun to watch football. Even against good defenses we should be able to land blows.
I think it’s worth remembering that in any given game, the other side has to show up and do enough to score more points than we do. Even against the top tier teams who will usually beat us, if a few things go our way, or they just generally have an off day and our offense is executing effectively, the chances of us pulling off an upset become very real.
We lose those games usually for sure, but the pressure is on them to show up and perform. We aren’t a team that can be safely overlooked anymore by anyone, and it’s been a long time I think since we could say that.
The speed with which we have gone from 3 wins and all of the headaches the outgoing regime left us in to being dangerous against quality opposition is remarkable. We need to keep fixing things in all aspects of the game, some more than others, but the turnaround so feels very encouraging.
No sir.The schedule for 2023 looks like 10-2 is possible also for Tennessee. I think with how tough the SEC is that 10-2 is the ceiling for Tennessee.
