Vols impressive in loss

Sorry to break it to you, but they don't tell you the coverage before you call your plays.

We were throwing the ball over the middle with great success all night. I liked the play call.

Tamu d really liked that play call, but compared to what UT was more successful at , that's what they should've went with (IMO) but it was a good play call but too short of a field , if the ball was on the 45 or 50 that's a tds the receivers held on to it

WOW.......What a game....I predicted Vols would lose this game...but I admit that I was WRONG about all of the reasons I gave to make that prediction!!!!

There should be no doubt about who was the better team out there today...700 yds of offense....6 turnovers.....

There were 7 TOs.

I'm proud of our team. They played hard and the fans screamed our guts out. We gave the game away with all the fumbles. 3 inside the 10 yard line. It sucks to lose as a fan but those guys gave their all of Tennessee yesterday. A&M should be thankful for all our generousity. Otherwise they lose big.

My analysis is that Josh Dobbs and Ethan Wolf miscommunicated and Dobbs read the coverage wrong.

No one minded the play call two weeks ago when it was a TD.

This comment reveals so much about your inability to actually see a football game and understand coverages and defensive schemes....

I've done some work for you....go here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL74f3Ac-0I

and forward the video to the 1:52:28 mark....and ask-
What coverage is Florida playing?

The play WORKED against Fla because they appear to be in cover 0 man everywhere.....with NO SAFETIES providing over the top help to anyone in man coverage...All Wolfe has to do is beat the LB deep down the seem....and TD Tennseessee!!!

Chavis is SMART....studies film....and knows that Florida's coverage was STUPID in that situation and will not make the same mistake so close to his own goal-line...

So Chavis had aTm in cover 2 man under to prevent that play...and that's why it is a STUPID PLAY to call by DEBORD in that situation!!! IT didn't have a prayer of being completed--even by Tom Brady or Peyton Manning--who would've been smart enough to get us out of the play with an audible!!!

Trying to criticize every play call is dumb. He put the ball in his senior QB's hands and it didn't work. It happens. Armchairing is silly.

I'm not criticizing EVERY PLAY.....just that play in that situation....

There were many different plays to call in that situation on 1st down and with the Defense and coverages aTm were running both in the game and in the OT period...

The slants were open ALL GAME LONG....and were successful when our receivers caught the ball....
Debord could've called the double slants and hit #15 Jennings on a safe play....

ANY play on the planet except the one he called....

We can just agree to disagree....:crazy:

Sorry to break it to you, but they don't tell you the coverage before you call your plays.

That's why your OC is up in the press box watching the defensive alignment and coverages all game long....

If you would learn a little bit about the game and how to do that, too--you would know that Chavis ran the same coverage on 1st down in OT as he did on 1st down in the 2nd OT....and that's why I say the play call was a stupid play to call and you say that it was a good call.....:crazy:

That's about where I am. Strangely neutral in emotion. So many injuries, calls against us, injuries... Honestly, hard to believe we were even in the game.

You are correct that it's hard to believe were even in the game, but take away those fumbles and injuries and we blow them out.

Did they run that coverage on every first down throughout the game? Of course not. And just because they ran it on first down in the previous series doesn't mean they will run it again. Maybe you should learn a little bit about the game instead of arm chair, hindsight analysis.

Maybe he should change his screen name to ArmchairMike?

I guess I must have been watching a different team than most of you have this year. I cannot deny the fight and absolute refusal to give up that they have displayed, but I have been reading everyone's comments about how great we looked and how we are a team that nobody wants to play. If I was a good team I couldn't wait to play a team like us. Every game we have played has been very sloppy, with way too many fumbles, bad interceptions, dumb penalties and basically just a completely undisciplined brand of football. These issues aren't getting any better. As a matter of fact this is the worst game we have played yet. Everybody is just so happy that we finally have a team that is talented enough to hang with the better teams that they are completely willing to overlook these issues. I already knew we would be one of the most talented teams in the country and I expected us to compete for a chance at the playoff. That's what makes this so frustrating is the fact that we are the kind of team that has the talent to beat anyone and we shouldn't have even had a close game yet, but we are extremely lucky to not have three losses already. Everyone talking about us winning a championship or even beating Bama next week is just so blinded by your fandom that you aren't being honest with yourself. Championship teams don't put themselves in a position to lose week after week.

Dobbs is a baller. He made a bad pass. I bet nobody is more pissed than him. Look out Bama Dobbs and Co will be ready!

just admit it.......you've never played one down of FB past the 5th grade......

Wrong. I played in high school, which probably is where your career ended too (if that). And wherever it ended, it doesn't make you a college level coach. DeBord craps more football knowledge into the toilet bowl every morning than either of us will ever have.

You are engaging in classic armchair, after-the-fact, hindsight analysis. "But they ran this coverage, how could you call that play." So delusional.

I coached kid ball for years and was quite successful at it.
I don't pretend to know anything about football on a big time level because I don't, and neither do all the experts on here.

Play calling is an art and is not easy.
All those complaining about play calling have never tried to do it.

Yeah....I played in High School....and had two offers to play Div. III FB......but took an Academic scholarship instead...and became a pharmacist--a move I regret to this day!!!

And none of that really matters.....the play was a stupid call and it cost us...I've listed the reasons for WHY it was stupid to throw that ball into aTm's Cover 2 defense--....and quite honestly--you just don't know enough about the game to give me even one simple reason for claiming it was a good call....

Furthermore....what is so disappointing to me is that

1. Debord may have not allowed Dobbs to audible;
2. Debord allows Dobbs to audible and Dobbs chose not to; or
3. Dobbs--though a legit rocket scientist, doesn't have enough football IQ to RECOGNIZE the coverage and get us out of a bad play.

Chavis was converting to Cover 2 all day when we got into the redzone...and continued it in the overtime....

Once again--tell me,, sir.....why do you think it was a good play with the game on the line?

NO--just nevermind.....it's pointless.......but you should really learn to take your eyes off of the ball during games and watch the players before the snap to determine what is actually going on in the game--it makes it a lot more fun to watch. :hi:

You should be very proud of your team They are some tough ball players. They never gave up and kept fighting until the end. They have nothing to be ashamed of.

Dobbs is a great QB just did not have his best day. He is very slippery when he runs the ball.

Kamara is a beast. That young man has a very bright future ahead of him.

I think the big difference in the game was turnovers. We caused some of them but others were on your players. We had several turnovers ourselves but our coaches did not cause them.

The fans that made the trip to the game represented the school well. Great group of people and they are welcome back anytime.

I wish that UT was our permanent cross division rival. I think the schools match up well.

This game does not mean anything unless we both take out 'bama. Might see y'all again in the SEC Champ game.

Texas A&M was LUCKY to win that game.....and yes, I know that they made some big plays when it counted....

Some observations......

1. You have to KILL US--literally cut off "our head" to beat us....These guys just refuse to accept DEFEAT...

ATTITUDE REFLECTS LEADERSHIP.....
MANY on here have made fun of CBJ for continually using words like resolve and resiliency on here--but this TEAM is the epitome of that word...I wonder where that attribute comes from??????

CBJ kept calling the team to be MATURE COMPETITORS in most of the preseason videos I watched...and they ARE!

2. That was one of the most physical FB games I've seen in a long time.....

3. Both Kamara and Kelly were IMPRESSIVE today...

4. TURNOVERS--A complete mystery to me.....cannot explain it....I WISH that Dobbs would've just attempted to fall on a few of those fumbles.....

5. WE MUST RECRUIT LBS as a PRIORITY!!!!!!

6. I can't figure DEBORD out...He looks like a genius at times in his play-calls...(you must give him credit where he has earned it!)....and he looks completely STUPID at other times with the plays he calls.....

7. It appeared that Shoop rolled us into COVER 1 today more than in any other game....

Really hope Wiesman, O'Brien, and McDowell are okay....

This team looked like a top 10 team today--minus all of the turnovers.....I know I mentioned it above.....but I can't explain how or why we keep laying the ball on the ground.....

GO VOLS! :salute:

This post has everything.

1) Blind orange homerism (take away the turnovers...couldn't the same thing have been said about VaTech?)

2) All caps and exclamation points to really drive the points home!!!!!!

3) Long

4) Ignoring our faults and glaring weaknesses.

There are no moral victories any longer.
The only good news is that if you took the 7 points you get your money back.

Amen and Amen..........there is NO such thing as an impressive loss. It was and is a loss that they should have won going away. :lolabove:

That's not the only good news. You forgot to take your Cymbalta.

There's also good news that we looked like a team that other teams don't want to play. We look like a team that could legitimately win an SEC championship, therefore making the playoff. Eliminate the fumbles, and penalties, and we are undoubtedly one of the best teams in the nation.

Eh. I somewhat agree. But I think the conference was already on to the idea that UT has a roster capable of beating anyone, anywhere. UT is at point now where its not about being a dangerous team that no one wants to play (that was last years team), its about winning those games now.

At this level its a chest match that a lot of detail goes into on the front end for the first half. After the half its about feel and reaction to adjustments that good DCs make.

Some have the gift of punching the right buttons on the fly after the game has settled in. Others plan well on the front end and make hay early.

The best ones can do both.
