WOW.......What a game....I predicted Vols would lose this game...but I admit that I was WRONG about all of the reasons I gave to make that prediction!!!!

There should be no doubt about who was the better team out there today...700 yds of offense....6 turnovers.....penalties, penalties, penalties....and yet THIS TEAM NEVER QUITS--and could have won...SO VERY PROUD OF THEM! :salute:

Texas A&M was LUCKY to win that game.....and yes, I know that they made some big plays when it counted....

Some observations......

1. You have to KILL US--literally cut off "our head" to beat us....These guys just refuse to accept DEFEAT...

ATTITUDE REFLECTS LEADERSHIP.....
MANY on here have made fun of CBJ for continually using words like resolve and resiliency on here--but this TEAM is the epitome of that word...I wonder where that attribute comes from??????

CBJ kept calling the team to be MATURE COMPETITORS in most of the preseason videos I watched...and they ARE!

2. That was one of the most physical FB games I've seen in a long time.....

3. Both Kamara and Kelly were IMPRESSIVE today...

4. TURNOVERS--A complete mystery to me.....cannot explain it....I WISH that Dobbs would've just attempted to fall on a few of those fumbles.....

5. WE MUST RECRUIT LBS as a PRIORITY!!!!!!

6. I can't figure DEBORD out...He looks like a genius at times in his play-calls...(you must give him credit where he has earned it!)....and he looks completely STUPID at other times with the plays he calls.....

7. It appeared that Shoop rolled us into COVER 1 today more than in any other game....

Really hope Wiesman, O'Brien, and McDowell are okay....

This team looked like a top 10 team today--minus all of the turnovers.....I know I mentioned it above.....but I can't explain how or why we keep laying the ball on the ground.....

GO VOLS! :salute:

There are no moral victories any longer.
The only good news is that if you took the 7 points you get your money back.

That's not the only good news. You forgot to take your Cymbalta.

There's also good news that we looked like a team that other teams don't want to play. We look like a team that could legitimately win an SEC championship, therefore making the playoff. Eliminate the fumbles, and penalties, and we are undoubtedly one of the best teams in the nation.

Funny how we call and OC a genius when the play works, but stupid when it doesn't. Hindsight is 20/20.

I liked the play call in the second OT. Dobbs had time, be but he just misread the coverage. He also missed a TD on another misread of the read option on the first play of OT. Not blaming him, it happens. Just bad luck.

No moral victory, but an objective assessment of the team's performance has to acknowledge the positive aspects of the game. OP is correct, without the fumbles we win this game. Mentally, this team could have folded like a cheap suit in the 2nd quarter, but didn't. And taking all the freaking injuries and horrendous calls into account, we STILL got to 2OT? Our team left everything on the field and played their guts out like the Warriors they are. I'm proud of them, to a man.

Now I want them to fix their mistakes and move on to Bama. All of our realistic season goals are still attainable. We have a very real shot at going 3 for 4 in the hardest stretch in the entire country. If you told me that before this season started, I'd have been ecstatic. Let's rest, heal, gather our focus, and destroy the Tide in Knoxville!

I thought when the team got themselves into OT that A&M would fold from despair. I'll give the Aggies credit that they fought a good fight also and if it weren't for our own misques, the outcome would have been much different.
Let's get some rest and recovery and next week show Alabama what a determined team can accomplish.
Our thoughts are also with OBrien.

The RB was WIDE OPEN on the play in 2nd OT when Dobbs threw the INT.....but Dobbs' primary receiver was running down the seem into the TEETH of Cover 2 man under.....DO you even know what I'm talking about????

Dobbs did make 2 very poor decisions in OT tonight....

He should've kept the ball on first down in the 1st OT, and he should not have thrown the ball on first down in the 2nd OT....

BUT--the PLAY CALLED on 1st down in the 2nd OT had the MAXIMUM potential for a TO in a game where they were already killing us!!!!!!

So--just what in the HE&$ was Debord thinking? What did he SEE that made him think that play would work against Cover 2 with Safeties walked 15 yds off the LOS in man under that would have the LB running with Wolf with help over the top??????????

NOTHING about that play call to the TE makes ANY SENSE at all....NOTHING....and they were playing the SAME coverage in the first OT, too....

So--you wanna say hindsight is 20/20----fine.....but at least know enough to try and figure out WHY DEBORD thought that was a good call on 1st down??????

It's not HINDSIGHT on my part at all---it's just knowing what in the HE** is going on out there on the field!!! :salute:

I guess after 100 offensive plays, he just ran out of calls?

I'm not one for moral victories either. I do feel very proud of the team coming back and taking the lead in overtime after losing so many fumbles earlier. I'm proud of Jones and the rest the coaching staff as well. There aren't a lot of teams that could have beaten A&M today getting all that home cooking officiating. Tennessee got shockingly close and never gave up despite being without some of their best players.

It's Debord's fault for Dobbs throwing into triple coverage.

Jesus Christ.

well.....first of all it wasn't triple coverage....do you even know how to determine what coverage they were playing????

it was cover 2 man under.....the LB was running with Wolfe in man under and he had help over the top down the seam by the safety playing zone.....

second of all....who called the play that had wolfe as the primary receiver running right into that coverage??????

Debord didn't throw the pass--that's about all you got right in your last post.....

but Debord called the play that put Dobbs in that situation.....dumb, dumb, dumb....given what coverages Chavis was calling in the first OT....

it is not putting your player in the best position to succeed....I simply don't understand why Debord chose to call that play.....

what's your analysis????

My analysis is that Josh Dobbs and Ethan Wolf miscommunicated and Dobbs read the coverage wrong.

No one minded the play call two weeks ago when it was a TD. **** happens man. Trying to criticize every play call is dumb. He put the ball in his senior QB's hands and it didn't work. It happens. Armchairing is silly.

TAMU is gunning for the run and we are averaging 8.4 yards per pass. Dobbs made a bad throw. You can't blame the OC for every call.

I didn't know TN turned back into moral victory u

I think the "proud of our team" talk is mostly in reference to the injuries. Even tho they should have blown them out, Tamu should have demolished that defense by the end of the night.

I would bet money you aren't friends with anyone on the team. I would love to hear what you would say to them when you saw them after such a gut spewing effort.

Look, I like discussing and criticizing coaches as much as the next guy, but I'm gonna trust the guy who put up 700 yards on the road against a top 10 team despite five lost fumbles. If Wolf runs the post instead of the seam it's either an incompletion or a catch. I'd rather Debord put the ball in Dobbs' hands to make a play (when he had been en fuego all night) instead of what we did last year.

I have a hard time compartmentalizing this game. We were close... We made a ton of mistakes, but we also had a ton of injuries, and fought back to take it to 2OT.

I'll call it a wash. It was a decent game. I'm neither thrilled no am I displeased.

Mostly - I just want to be healthy for Bama.

That's about where I am. Strangely neutral in emotion. So many injuries, calls against us, injuries... Honestly, hard to believe we were even in the game.

Sorry to break it to you, but they don't tell you the coverage before you call your plays. It is the QBs job to read the coverage and then check down to the RB. Not bashing Dobbs, either, because he played a great game. Just a bad play there.

We were throwing the ball over the middle with great success all night. I liked the play call.
