Vols Hire Darin Hinshaw per Drew Edwards

Well, you know what they say, its not the size of the dog in the fight. Its the the size of the fight in the dog.
Never heard of this guy but you never know.

I think part of the reason why this guy got hired is his ties he has made in the Memphis area...you know the invisible fence Lame-alot was supposed to put up down there that Marlon Brown climbed over...maybe Hinshaw can make it an electric fence instead down there.

Memphis produces the most in-state talent by a significant margin. This hire could finally give us some in-roads to get some of it to Knoxville.

This is TENNESSEE not LA TECH!

Get ready guys, this staff is a joke. 3 years and he is gone. Hamilton will also be gone.

My stomach is in knots right now. How did we fall so far???

The OP makes a valid point here. just being able to coach is not necessarily enough to get you to the top. You have to KNOW what it takes to win a championship. A coach needs to KNOW how hard it is to get there and how hard the players need to work. It's called experience!

Not to go all "big fish rumor" on you, but if I was gonna make a potentially unpopular coaching announcement, I would save it for a few hours before making the DC announcement, if it was a biggie.

I like the young, hard-working position coaches vs. fat, lazy guys on the downsides of their careers, especially for recruiting purposes. If he coaches QB's or RB's, these kids will be coming here for Chaney and our offensive style.

And if the style works, this guy's success becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, making Dooley look like a genius.

I bet most of the people whining about this hire not being a "big name" couldn't name half of Saban's or Meyer's assistants without looking it up.

This is true. But with the way this is going, by the time we have a full staff I will have learned half of the nation's assistants because of their rumored prospective status here at UT.

I am now for firing Hamilton and giving Phil the job.

Hi, newbie here. Been lurking a lot since the rapture last week. Quick bio: UT grad (accounting undergrad 97, masters of accounting 99), lived in Gibbs Hall (athlete's dorm) my last 3 years on campus, bleed orange, etc.

Ok, now that that's out of the way, can you or any other supporter of Fulmer becoming AD please tell me what qualifies him for this position? The AD of UT (or any other big time college sports university) is the equivalent of a CEO at a multi-million dollar corporation. Among his many responsibilties is hiring the right folks to run the different divisions (in this case, the various sport teams at UT). What, in Fulmer's umpteen years of coaching football, qualifies him to be the CEO of a multi-million dollar corporation?

Now, I'm not a Mike Hamilton supporter. This hire will probably be his last major hire at the university. I just can't understand why people think Fulmer should replace him. Other than maybe his love for the school and football coaching connections.

U must be blind! Calhoun and Singleton are ust two I can think of that were great! Now their QB, that is a different story.

Don't hate on the WRs just becasue their team sucked!

They were great? Seriously? They are leaving the U of M no better than they were when they got there. They only caught balls because they were tall. Neither one can run a route, block, or break tackles.

According to Wes Rucker from Twitter around 20 minutes ago.
The Vols say that no assistants' coaching positions have been determined.

Basically, what they mean is some of these guys could coach in different spots, leaving Dooley options with last few hires.

I think it'll be ok. Dooley was the one who brought Muschamp and Smart to Saban's attention. So I think he's a pretty good scouter of coaching talent.

So, with this hire leaving about 1.25 million of cap left or more vs last years assistant staff a HUGE name better pop up for DC. I wouldn't be suprised if we offered Smart 1.1 million or Nix 800k.

i heard mike say there was a number on how much they could spend wich sugest to me the more they save on one hire the more they can spend on another. he has ties to memphis nashville and sout fl. may not be a great hire but i dont think we can juge the staff untill he is finished getting his staff in place.

Okay, I may have gone overboard on the GREAT but they were good. So, on a team like ours with a proven QB, you do not think they could have played ball?

No chance we get Smart, especially after he turned down UGA (his alma mater) to stay at Bama.

Who's the best RB coach in the SEC? You don't know.....give it a rest already....it's a freaking RB coach.
