Vols have the most talented team in the east, per data

Talent has been the problem....look at the Vols in the draft minus this last class....it has been the problem

I would say that it "was" a problem. Last year and this year, that doesn't fly. Now, you could say that injuries and depth were problems last year, and I would agree. No more excuses about talent, though.

Its interesting to see how the "quality" depth is finally starting to show up..... I think they'll be a little better than everyone thinks.

It would help to weight the stars.
4star senior = 4x2
4* junior = 4x1.5
4* sofmore= 4x1
4* fresh= 4x.5 etc.

But yes we have talent. It will take time to get them playing well together. By then we may loose a couple. I think we could also surprise some people. Underclassmen and under dogs have nothing to loose. They play fast and loose.

We are going to need Josh Dobbs to figure the math on this now!

Honestly, I think we may have the most complete roster since Butch took the reigns. We'll miss some real playmakers, but the lines look strong and there are talented guys at the skill positions, although many are unproven. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Talent has never been the problem. A lot of us are aware that Butch isn't great on gameday, which I'm assuming is your point here.

I think his point was the media is extremely lazy in doing actual research on teams. Which is why they almost are never right with their predictions.

I believe the core of our talent has shifted from skill to beef up front. Can't wait to see how this all shuffles out.

While this may be apparent on the surface but we have some crazy good talent still at the skill positions that is just young and hasn't really surfaced yet. Most of that skill is coming from what was a loaded 2016 class for the WR spot. All of the WRs from the 16 class will be big this year and will be HUGE for the next three years.

Tyler Byrd - #1 Athlete
Marquez Callaway - #3 Athlete
Brandon Johnson - Been said to have the best hands on the team and a good all around player
Latrell Williams - Speed speaks for itself.

Three of these guys had flashes last year and will be weapons for whoever will be tossing them the ball the next three seasons.

It's this kind of talent at positions that talking heads leave out in their predictions cause they don't take the time to look at the rosters.

Per RTI.

I think "experts" are seeing the loss of Dobbs/Kamara/Barnett/Malone and not seeing anything else. This team is talented.

Okay so the numbers and data don't lie.... now let's see if Butch and staff can maximize this talent on the field... this has been the issue/question from day one. I believe some supporting staff hindered the true development of these kids for several years, so now that we should be strong across the coaching board, hopefully we see the true potential of this talent.

It is an interesting thought to ponder, that maybe we could be better. The O line has more experience, is healthy, and has better S&C. Dormady in turn has more time in the pocket and can pass more accurately. In turn, our WRs look better, are more talented and athletic than recently. Also, the O line can finally get more push, opening holes for our RBs, which outside of Kelly have been 4 star recruits mostly. Our defense, if healthy, has shown what it can do, and if the coaching on that side of the ball improves (particularly for DBs) and if Hoke can really shape our front 4, we could be better on defense as well.

There are many questions, and we very well could slump into a 7-5 type of season, but if all of the variables we have work out in our favor, why can't we be better? All of these numb skulls in the media are saying we'll be "abysmal" and all of our rivals think that just because we lost some great players we suddenly have no talent or experience.

There is no reason this team can't get to 8-4 or maybe even 10-2 perhaps with the right coaching, development, and if the breaks go our way.

Based on what I know, this isn't true and Tennessee will finish no better than 4th in the East because they suck now and suddenly talent is meaningless.

That 1998 team lost Peyton but had an NFL RB, NFL WR, and an offensive line and defense loaded with NFL players (sounds like modern day Alabama). And Tee Martin was no slouch himself.

Butch's last couple of Tennessee teams have been talented, but nowhere near as talented as Fulmer's 1997 - 1999 squads.

*Too bad we know already this upcoming team won't have any NFL players on it.

(* I think the point was that we didn't know what we had going into that season after we lost Manning.)
