Vols have the most talented team in the east, per data

Also with GA they have the more talented QB, RB's at this point, a really good TE that will most likely have a breakout season this year, what's holding them back is their OL and if they can block even reasonably well this year that offense is going to be stacked! Now we will see if Kirby is actually a good defensive coach this year or if this will show that Saban ran that defense pretty much completely, because their defense at GA was terrible last year(which is why it took a hailmary to beat them) they have some talent on that side, but most likely they are going to be in shootouts again this year unless Kirby shows he is a defensive wizard!

If Shoop's D looks more like a Shoop D this fall and less like a Sunseri D... UT will dominate the LOS vs UGA. That could turn the game to the good guys if the O can move the ball. UGA will have talent and experience on D.

I get what they're doing but it's a pretty worthless method without weighting for class.

8-4 is much closer to the ceiling than the floor this year.

"Acceptable" floor, you're right that we could easily do worse than 8-4 but if we do it should result in curtains for Butch.

And the only reason 8-4 is acceptable is breaking in a new QB and limited skilled depth at RB. Aside from that it's year 5, and Butch should have the players/system in place to be competing for the East annually.

Everyone thought after Peyton left there was no hope for Tennessee, granted I don't see CBJ as good of a coach as Phil.

I see 9-3 for the season, couple more months and there will be no more speculations though.

That 1998 team lost Peyton but had an NFL RB, NFL WR, and an offensive line and defense loaded with NFL players (sounds like modern day Alabama). And Tee Martin was no slouch himself.

Butch's last couple of Tennessee teams have been talented, but nowhere near as talented as Fulmer's 1997 - 1999 squads.

Brady Hoke coaching the D line should definitely help too.

Eason has the arm strength and shows flashes at times, but I will refrain from any judgement of him until I see more. If he doesn't take the big step this year, who knows. This year will be telling about him. He certainly looked extremely freshman like at times last year, but then again, that's a double edged sword since he was just that, a freshman.

Your right, but there were still many that thought after Manning left we would never win it all, there has been many talented Tennessee teams before and after Manning that had the talent but fell short. Fans sometimes get a testy and hasty in the heat of the moment. GBO!!!!

I think this team will too. I believe Kelly will be a NFL back and Juaun Jennings will be a NFL WR. Both lines have some players that will be playing on Sundays too.

Based on what I know, this isn't true and Tennessee will finish no better than 4th in the East because they suck now and suddenly talent is meaningless.

Signed,
Kentucky boards, South Carolina Boards, Vandy Boards, etc. and Booger McWhatever.

Sweet revenge.

NFL slam dunks on roster (guys that will definitely get a shot):

J. Jennings
J. Kelly
J. Roberson
Kirkland
Warrior
Kongbo
K-Mac (say what you want, but he gets drafted on measurables alone - guaranteed)
Tuttle (healthy)
Wolf

Potential NFL players:

Dormady
Guarantano
Chandler
Byrd
Callaway
B. Johnson
T. Smith
D. Richmond
C. Hall
J. Jones
M. Tatum
B. Vickers
A. Johnson
K. Phillips
D. Taylor
S. Wiggins
J. Martin
M. Osbourne
M. Abernathy

I am sure I missed some, but there is talent everywhere. LB is a question mark, but everywhere else, especially offensively, Tennessee is near the top of the SEC in terms of talent.

I don't think there's any question that we have a lot of talent. Without accounting for attrition I looked at Rivals avg/points per player (top 20 signees) recruiting class for the last 3 and 4 years and we are a low 4-star team (5.8). Florida is a bit below us but still a low 4-star team and Georgia is a bit ahead of us at 5.9, mid 4-star team.

May were wrong, just as many are likely to wrong this year.

Interesting data. Especially when you consider KR Evan Berry is our only preseason All-SEC selection, first OR second team. Georgia has six, SC three, Florida eight (counting specialists), and even KY has four. Something doesn't add up. If this is a dig at CBJ for not developing the talent he recruits, then just say that. Hopefully, he had addressed that with the coaching changes. Very few preseason experts are saying that UT is the most talented team in the East this year.

I get what they're doing but it's a pretty worthless method without weighting for class.

For the entire class rankings per year, not just the 4 and 5 star.

14' UT - 5
UGA - 7
UF - 8

15' UT - 5
UGA - 6
UF - 23

16' UT - 15
UGA - 9
UF - 14

17' UT - 15
UGA - 3
UF - 9

JR and SR classes, the edge goes to UT slightly over UGA with UFs Jr class looking Dooleyish.
