We have really been trending upward since he left. At this point, I would take a 7-5 season over the crap we have endured for much of the last decade. It is hard to get to Atlanta losing 4-5 conference games per year.

The only thing that bought Fulmer a reprieve from a quicker exit was Cutcliffe having heart trouble and being forced to turn down ND.

He came back to the Vols and had a large hand in those seasons you referred to in 2006 and 2007.

Once Cutcliffe left again, the wheels, not surprisingly, came off the program again with no discipline and embarrassing losses to Bama and UF.

Your hero is back in the fold running the show so stop whining. Remains to be seen if he can still make a coaching hire on his own though.

Cutcliff left the program before the NC game in 98', we played in Atlanta in 01' and 04' without Cutcliff

Revisionist history, but I am with you. Reality is, that, other than an SEC championship in 2009 or 2010, we would have run him off like Les Miles or Mark Richt. We were spoiled with 9/10+ win seasons, and he never would have lasted. We were also flawed internally at AD. Clawson did him in. Everyone forgets Fulmer did have Taj Boyd committed, who pretty much single handed started Clemson on their meteoric rise. Guess we can eternally thank Kiffin for chasing him off because he didn't fit his system...go figure.

Not just Boyd but Bryce Petty and Bo Wallace as well. All three quarterbacks were much better options than what we eventually ended up settling on including Tyler Bray

That sounds nice. However, if Hamilton does the right thing and hires Gary Patterson after firing fulmer, these last 10 years turn out much differently.

Though it wasn't in the six lopsided Fulmer losses, the 2001 LSU championship game, in my opinion changed the trajectory of UT football, and put Saban on fast track with his first SEC championship...so, was a double whammy. This is why you never know how much games can mean, and, in my opinion, why the Florida game, for a variety of reasons, may be the most important "win-able" game on paper this year...gotta show progress of some sorts, even though it may not be a great season.

Letting Fulmer go wasn’t a mistake. It needed to be done in order for our program to keep going forward.

The mistake was our Administration valuing saving money over winning.

That’s why our previous hires after Kiffin left, turned out to be God awful which is why Pruitt is in a rough spot his 1st year as UT’s HC.

Trending in the wrong direction is the last 10 years of UT football. Playing for the SEC championship 2 out if 5 years...is not trending in the wrong direction.

The worst thing Fulmer done as a head coach was spoil us fans I to believing having a winning program was easy.

Fulmer's strong point was recruiting but he enjoyed a relatively easy era in which to do so. The recruiting environment changed with the rise of the ACC and with USCe joining the SEC.

Dude, we are 57-57 since Fulmer was fired, Fulmer was 152-52 in 16 seasons. 49-27 in his last 6 seasons, tied for 23rd in wins over that 6 year period from 03 to 08, in other words, on average a Top 25 team, from 2009 to present we are 71st in wins. Say what you wish about me, these numbers speak for themselves.
