The reason so many are playing is bc he is promising playing time to these recruits. That's also a reason we're losing so many. They are told they will come in and play immediately, then when they don't get the starting job they transfer out. Has Butch successfully redshirted any players for non injury reasons yet?

Someone, who is knowledgeable, list all the actual true freshman contributers on the team.

I'm talking real contributers. Not mop up duty guys.

And how many start?

Preston Williams and Jauan Jennings are in the WR rotation getting significant playing time in SEC play.

Shy Tuttle (IMO our best D-lineman this year), Kahlil McKenzie, and Kyle Phillips are in the 2-deep and have had major playing time against Florida and Arkansas.

Darrin Kirkland Jr. has been starting at MLB and Austin Smith was named a starter following the injury to Curt Maggit at OLB in the base 4-3 defense. However he hasn't played many snaps yet. Maybe we'll see him a lot against Georgia.

No real contribution from freshman on the o-line (which really makes no sense given how bad the upperclassmen at o-line have been and how highly touted the freshmen class was). Plus not a lot of freshmen DBs or RBs playing real snaps.

So really its only been 6 freshmen getting real playing time. With another (Austin Smith) being named a starter for the Arkansas game but not really playing many snaps.

Shy Tuttle and Khalil McKenzie, at defensive tackle, are not starting yet but are working into the rotation at that position on an ever increasing basis. Kyle Phillips, at defensive end, falls into the same category, but is currently a bit dinged up. Preston Williams, at wide receiver, is in the rotation at that position, but, of course, no receiver has been terribly productive thus far. Austin Smith has seen playing time at linebacker although he is not a starter. Jauan Jennings, whom you will remember from the throwback touchdown pass to Dobbs, is widely regarded as someone that they must find a way to get more involved as the season progresses. Jennings came in as a high school quarterback in the spring and moved to the receiver corps during fall camp. By all accounts, he is making the transition very well. Darrin Kirkland Jr. will clearly seize the starting middle linebacker position over the course of the season. Jack Jones and Chance Hall are, I believe, playing as second-team offensive linemen. Others can fill in additional blanks in terms of those who are playing significantly on special teams at this point.

Joe Tessitore is ripping coach Jones on national television during the USC-WASH game. I guess it's all apart of the process that we are the laughing stock of the entire nation, from coast to coast.

How many underclassmen have had a significant amount of playing time on the o-line? If they don't get some experience playing this year we're going to be in the same boat next year due to lack of experience. Not being a negavol. Just being realistic. I hope they start getting real playing time.

Instead of getting experienced being bullied by bigger, stronger, more experienced DLinemen and blitz packages that could demoralize them, our young freshmen OLinemen are better off hitting weights and learning proper technique this year. We May be forced to play them next year, but we are better off if most are in the back up role in future years until 3 years in the program. Then we are back to the TVA style line that was dominate in the SEC and sent a couple first round draft picks to the NFL

I don't think we have enough o-lineman ahead of them next year to do it that way. There is no substitute for experience. We're going to need those guys to play significant roles next year. Hopefully we'll be able to play freshmen later in the near future, but we don't have that luxury right now. Another thing that concerns me is we only have one o-lineman commited for this next class. I don't understand that thinking. The o-line is still our biggest weakness on offense.

The Washington team that went into USC and won tonight has 24 freshmen/sophomores on its 2-deep.

I'd bet at least half the teams in the SEC could beat USC. They are so overated and haven't been the same since Pete Carrol.

If Jones can't get them to stick around that number will continue to grow.

Attrition happens everywhere, but no excuse for having 3 recruiting classes the size and caliber of ours in the past 3 years and STILL having to rely on freshman at every position.

The 2013 class was a train wreck. The 2014 class was great before attrition and good afterwards. The 2015 class are true Freshman now so maybe that's why we are playing so many Freshman. It's not quantum mechanics.

Almost everyone of them are RS Fresh and RS Soph. Makes a difference. Plus Washington is still starting 15 Seniors and Juniors (not including kicker, punter etc).

Our problem is not just youth/inexperience it's the lack of quality upperclassmen.

So let me guess, next year right? Some fans never run out of excuses to make for mediocrity. I am beginning to think we have seen the best this program will ever be. From here on out whatever is accomplished will be compared to Dooley and as long as we win 6 games, everything is fine.

I would bet that no team in the country lost as many signess from one class as we did in the 2012(68%)..we only have 7 of the 22 left..those would be your Seniors and RS Juniors..its like being on probation and losing 15 scholarships in 2 years!

You put out this stat but seem to use it as a defense of Butch.

This stat is his fault. Nothing happens in a vacuum. He has had a crazy amount of attrition every year. We will have to keep relying on Freshman and Sophomores if the players keep leaving his program at the rate they currently are.

Wouldn't exactly call saying his name in conjunction with screwing the pooch on that 2 point call ripping him. Unless I missed something.

Although if that's what it is then it's well deserved.

All teams play young players, the difference these other teams are coached by coaches that coach the players then promote them self. I have attended many spring practices at different programs and I can say I have yet seen any HC that likes to hear himself talk as much as Jones does, the only program I've seen where the HC uses a mic so everyone can see he is the guy, I think it's simple get Jones to realize he is privileged to be here and he is coaching a team not running for a political office, if you really listen to the guy you figure out really quick he talks in circles.

Guess floridas freshman QB and WR and just better. Or maybe it's the protection he got from his 3 freshman OL.

You will never convince the bumbling dolts around here of anything other than CBJ stinks and "if we just had the right coach we would be 10-2 every year". They can't seem to grasp the fact that out of our position groups only 2-3 of them have any talent whatsoever and that is rb, wr, punter, and tight end. We are worse than lousy at linebacker, oline, dline, corner back except for Sutton, saftey, and field goal kicker. He is playing youth at linebacker, oline, dline, and safety to try and correct the problem but they make a lot of mistakes in key situations. We have virtually no talented seniors except for Maybin and Howard but he is gone. Not to mention, average at best qb play.
