Everyone is so hung up on labels/ratings that what no one sees is whether a kid is a baller or not. By this I mean that a prospect tears it up in the "flag football" camp circuit with an outstanding 40 time/vertical jump/coverage skills, but what no one sees is the fact that in a real game situation, the kid shies away from contact or doesn't like to be hit. Since all the time and effort in recruiting is spent on these prospects, there is no time/effort put into a kid that has comparable, although maybe not as high, measurables. The overlooked kid might be an All-State performer, state leader in statistics, etc., but yet be deemed not worthy due to the lack of star rating or hype.
Now, take this low-rated prospect and add him to a team and what do you have? A dang good player, pretty much equal to the rest in his group, but looked upon in a negative light due to a label ( walk-on ). I'm just saying that a kid should not be minimized due to a label. If he can play, he can play and if he is outworking the higher rated players, then they need to get their butts in gear and "live up to the hype" and separate themselves from the pack!
