Vols Going with Nike

I personally think some of the opposition to Nike is because some people like to oppose what they think are fads just because they dislike fads. Nothing more, nothing less.

Unfortunately, when you are trying to appeal to juveniles, fads are all that matter.

For example, my daughter wants an Iphone. I have had Verizon salesmen and US Cellular salesmen explain to her that Samsung Galaxies are better. She still wants the I phone.

Why? To be "cool".

Not taking a position on iPhone-vs-Android, but you do know those salesmen get offered financial incentives to sell Samsung phones, right? Same thing happens when you go into a bar and the bartender recommends something specific. You'd think a lawyer would be savvy enough not to confuse a salesman with an expert.

I wonder how many shades of orange will show up when the lineman start to sweat in the ProCombat jerseys?

This is true. Where I live, if you go to the American Cellular store, they will try everything to get you not to buy an iPhone. If you go the verizon store one town over, they'll sell you one without any hassle.

You can bet on that

Since Bama is a Nike school, they will probably have some nice uniforms made up for that game

I can see it now, Bama in some ridiculous looking houndstooth print helmet, while we're wearing some kind of abomination of a helmet that somehow tries to make it look like there's a coon skin hat on it.

Personally, I just prefer Adidas. But if the kids like Nike, fine. I'll just stock up on the discounted 3 stripe gear when it goes on clearance after all the Nike gear gets unveiled. More than anything, I just don't want Nike telling us what we have to do, what to wear, and when to wear it. That's not much of a partnership with your athletic gear provider, IMO.

Please give us orange and chrome camo.

On a serious note: I'll wait to reserve judgment, but I am a fan of Oregon's uniforms but not some of the others that Nike does.

DP12, is this a problem that will be fixed by winning and more exposure with multiple seasons of top-tier bowl games or maybe a few years in the playoffs? Or is it going to be hard to change their view of us?

We are not a trendy team that sells a lot of merchandise outside of tennessee. Believe it or not, most people do not like our orange. So I wouldn't think competing for championships would change our status too much with nike.

They may get paid more but I have had both and the galaxy is far superior

Yea

For your sake, maybe Nike will have a uniform with paw prints on the shoulder and a print of smokey on the helmet licking his junk

Last year we were 15th in the nation in merchandise royalties. (1.) The University of Texas at Austin (2.) The University of Alabama (3.) University of Notre Dame (4.) The University of Michigan (5.) University of Kentucky (6.) Louisiana State University (7.) University of Florida (8.) University of Georgia (9.) University of North Carolina (10.) The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville (11.) The University of Oklahoma (12.) Texas A&M University (13.) University of Wisconsin (14.) University of Nebraska (15.) University of Tennessee

By the way, in 2008, we were 9th. If we win, we AIN'T no second tier school.

I'm taking a wait-and-see approach on this. I actually kind of liked Adidas - good enough for Peyton Manning, good enough for me - but winning several more games this season than in the last few is what I'm most concerned about.

I'll be honest, I REALLY like the way Alabama's home uniform looks, you know, minus the Alabama logos and the nasty crimson color. It's clean and simple, yet iconic. I could see that looking incredible as UT's white and orange stormtrooper road uniform.

Level 1 is correct. Nike upped their offer to us this time. Big move.

Disclaimer*
I have no idea what I'm talking about and am not connected in any way. I was just hoping to get some likes.

That's what Volquest is reporting. I don't think that's completely accurate. But that's what UT is going to sell.

So, UT signed with the apparel company most desired by recruits, got a top-tier deal, and the coaching staff was obviously involved...but grown fans are going to complain because THEY don't like the brand??? This might be the most ridiculous discussion in the history of Volnation.

I think deer park said last time they offered us a lv 2. So they would be in ccontrolled of everything but I do believe lv 1 is the best

Thanks man. That's good news. I'm really trying to figure why so many people have so much animosity towards Nike.
