Wonder if we should be concerned?

I'm not saying I know the Gooch kid, or that anyone I know knows him. I'm just saying...You don't generally gain 80lbs in that short time. My friend has cycled PEDs, just like everyone in the bodybuilding business. Having seen what it did to help him, I'd be curious about Gooch...That's all.

You gotta think, though...He gained a Nicole Richie.

I think i read that he dropped the weight for wrestling originally. Idk if that would help him gain the weight back or not but...

More than likely means he was probably 20-25 lbs heavier (which is why his weight was noted) before he dropped, which makes the gain from his original weight not as outstanding.

I'm still...curious.
At this point, it doesn't matter at all. He can't get in trouble. If he did use PEDs, though, I hope he's all done cycling.

Gooch grows into the center position; ready to come to Knoxville GoVolsXtra

What's really shocking is how he gained nearly 80lbs in two years, maybe we need to room him with Bray? I also wonder if the weight he added was the "good" weight or the "bad" weight but at least I'm happy having a 305lb natural center...

He had interest Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Boise State and Arizona, UT was the only one who would offer him a spot in the 2010 class.

How is that shocking? I did that in a year and a half. It wasn't all good weight, but I doubt Gooch's is 100 percent "good" weight, too.

Maybe he ate Nicole Richie.

I just watched his highlights on Youtube...

From what I could see (the video wasn't great) he's very mobile and aggresive...looks like he's quick to the point of attack, has good technique and finishes plays well...

Will he start immediately...I don't know, but I've said it before...I don't think it'll take much to beat out Pope

Easy answer. No.

Easy answer. No.

Not that easy of an answer...the fact that neither Pope nor Thomas separated themsleves in the spring leaves the door open IMO...maybe not immediately but I think early in the season isn't out of the question

After reading it, he's apparently gained 80 lbs since the end of his HS career. Is that not only a year ago?
If he gained 80lbs in a year, I'm calling PEDs and not thinking twice.

Easy answer. No.

We wouldn't have signed him not to start immediately. The two guys we had in spring were converted linemen and didn't impress and that's why they brought in Gooch. I am willing to bet that Darin will be our opening day center.

We'll take any O-Line depth we can get. I'd guess that's part of the reason we added him.

Maybe he did. Either way he still may be the best center we have.

All this good weight, bad weight talk is ridiculous. He's an OL, he doesn't need to be built like Ronnie Coleman.

If Dooley was really looking for guys that "fit" in then he would have been looking for things like that, and wouldn't have offered. I would assume.

The Truth is they took this kid sight unseen.
Not exactly doing your due diligence.
The Truth is Dooley is not the hard worker he tries to portray.

And you know this how????? To suggest that DD didn't at least watch videos before signing is absurd!!!

Just to put a tiny bit of diligence into the discussion about whether or not someone is using PEDs...

"Gooch arrived at Butte last fall as a 225-pounder from McQueen High School in Reno, N.V. He gained enough weight to play for Butte at close to 260 pounds as a freshman."

Sounds like he left HS at 225 (close to his wrestling weight class) and then gained enough weight to play his Freshman year at a JC at 260. At the end of his Freshman year he's got another 45 pounds. I'm not saying that's easy, but he looks like a big boy who can eat a lot to me. I'd go ahead an hold off on any accusations.

Just my opinion...

@TruthGeneral
Boy, if they took him sight unseen, it's a good thing he happens to even play football, right? BTW, do you know how someone would get their name into the hat to be drawn for a spot on the team? I know some guys that would like to try for that "sight unseen" spot.
