Vols get new commit from GA DE Roman Harrison

I've posted this before but I really believe that Fulmer would still be the hfc at UTK if he could've kept Donta Hightower home. Recruiting has to be ruthless. I hope these guys are ruthless but I'm not convinced.

One player changes nothing. Hightower wouldn’t have made Clawson’s offense less confusing.

Whether we believe it or not... this is a reach in the fashion of Butch Jones.

I was expecting a MUCH better showing recruiting wise with Pruitt.

We are running short on schollies and continue to load up on lower ranked (or unranked) players.

It's a long time till Christmas Jeff 1. Like with most parents = some of the best presents this year will not be unwrapped till closer to Dec 25th or maybe even early Feb. :)

Way too early to judge how Christmas is going to go - rumors abound of some nice presents that are still not wrapped and under the tree.

Someone just yesterday was projecting a 7th ranked class. What a merry Christmas that would be.

You and your other sisters skedaddle off to bed now. ;-)

Did Pilot Oil win that lawsuit where they were cheating all of the truckers.
We need a Haslam Bag 💼 Man.

I'm going back to school and talk to young people (18-20 yrs old) everyday. Eight out of ten think Tennessee is "garbage". It will take some time for Pruitt and co. to change these perceptions.
In the meantime, I believe we have the coaching staff to actually develop players, not just collect stars.

Yes and no. Jimmy is free - the truckers were repaid with interest - a lot of the bag men were convicted or pled out.

Not many winners there - the feds hung out in town for several years so maybe better than some of their other assignments.

I am going to try to break this down so that even Negavols can understand.

This is the equivalent of UT having a baseball camp and there is a player from Georgia who has been playing shortstop and hitting .365 because he is is his schools best athlete and at camp they put him on the mound and he throws it 97.

He consistently throws it 97 even though he only plays shortstop in high school.
We make him an offer with the expectation of converting him from shortstop to a pitcher. Does it mean that he will become a great pitcher - no. Are his measurable and his potential to make a contribution at a position other than what he is currently playing high - oh yeah.

Ok Jeff 1, you and your other sisters skedaddle off to bed now. :)

Just watched the first play on his Hudl video and he is playing nose tackle and runs down a running back as he is trying to circle the end at the line of scrimmage. His film is impressive - he plays out of position - he plays and arrives with an nasty attitude -

I think he will surprise a lot of people - just not as a 230 lb nose tackle.

He has also been offered by Mich State so he seems to be on an upward trajectory and may get more offers before it is said and done.

Michigan State is-was interested in him also i believe

True but even so, the offer list is extremely weak. Now he could blow up and start getting great offers. But, people are talking about his athleticism especially after seeing his 40 and vertical. I find it hard to believe that Pruitt and company found him yet no other big time staff did. Especially with those numbers.

I looked at the tape and he is going to be great at DE/LB Hybrid. Butch is gone let him go. This young man has attributes that normally don’t exist in one person uncanny speed for an 17 year old, incredible strength, and the most gleaming trait, he does not quit on a play add that to a motor as well. No one gets the outside.

You can't expect the world after the worst season in Tennessee history .

No ****. That practically guarantees he is gonna be a star.

Meh. Im sure we will boost our class up really nicely once the dirt peckers lose to Kentucky for the 5th year in a row and some of your guys flip over to us.

Ole Will Muffcramp has already spoken out about how hard Pruitt is on the recruiting trail. He will work his magic through out the fall and snatch some guys from you. Patience.

I have been reading these post for years. It sucks the first post I’m ever going write is a complaint. It’s a complaint about my own fan base. People please give the kid and the coaching staff a chance. I played football all through high school and I would be willing to bet I know a good bit more about it than most on here. I wouldn’t dare try and evaluate these guys like you know it alls. We needed a coaching change. That’s a fact! However, if some of us fans think we don’t need to change we’re sadly mistaken. Have we been disappointed for a long time now? Absolutely. Please guys just try and be positive. I’m not a pumper. However, I have faced the fact that we have our guy. I got a feeling he’s gonna be a damn good one. With that said, im going to do everything I can to represent my fan base in a positive way. Stop embarrassing us acting like you have any idea what your talking about as it pertains to these players. Worry about making yourself a better fan. I know it’s been hard. I’ve been a fan for 35 years. This kid could literally be the next superstar! I don’t know and I’m ok with that. I promise you don’t either! May just a little luck be with us this year. Go VOLS!

You’re way too invested in our recruiting.

I don’t think it’s occured to him that right after the worst season in Tennessee football history, we are STILL recruiting as well as they are. 😂

I'd like to throw this out here in reference to recruiting "diamonds in the rough"...

Let's play some fantasy and say that only FBS schools can recruit. Let's further that by saying each high school football player can only be evaluated by one FBS school. That one school's evaluation is what will be used for all FBS recruiting.

There are 129 FBS teams.

There are 1.1 million high school football players, according to the latest numbers I could find.

According to my math, that would be close to 8,500 players, per FBS team, if only one team scouted each player.

Let's say that each FBS team has 10 scouts. That's 850 high school football players per each scout. If each of those 10 scouts works 365 days a year, nonstop, then they would be evaluating at least two players a day.

You think a couple of those 1.1 million players might have been overlooked?

IMO, star ratings are useful for those 'star' players that get press during high school and in camps. I would counter that by saying an overwhelming percentage of high school football players don't have the opportunity to be evaluated like the high press players, though they may have contributed to the other players' success.

If I'm a betting man, I'd say there are probably hundreds of players throughout the country that never got the chance to be properly evaluated and would rank as high or higher than the 4 or 5 star recruits from the same team.

Again, I'm no recruiting expert, but I'd say there are hundreds of legitimate 'diamonds in the rough' out there for the right evaluators.

You are always there with a word of encouragement. Silver linings.

Right there with ya hillbilly. We have to get better players. Bama already has 19 recruits that are 4 and 5 *. Yes stars matter because we aren't gonna find 12 "diamonds in the rough" that the other teams haven't noticed.

With the reputation that these assistants bring as recruiting gurus, we should be able to recruit better than we have even with 4-8 record. IMO

I think there's overt desperation that this HAS to be the right hire on the part of many fans/posters. We now have a funnel of abstraction for rationalizing recruiting.
If they have stars, we're taking it to the big boys. If they don't have stars, they're underrated and you have to look at the offer list. If they don't have stars or a strong offer list, you have to look at the measurables. If they don't have stars, a strong offer list, or off the chart measureables, then they are a true diamond in the rough that only our staff has the ability to identify.
