VOLS: "Full scale 5 alarm dumpster fire"

Reece Davis just now on ESPN Gameday.
Finebaum says we could easily be 1-7.
Pollack: "u return 18 starters and can't win the east, if not this year, when will they ever win it".
Butch being blistered over Hurd loss and team chemistry.

But were are not 1-7. Clemson could easily have 2 losses. Texas A&M could easily have 2 more losses. OSU could easily have 2 more losses.

As for winning the east - it doesn't help when you play the two top teams in the West when you competition gets to play # 4 and # 5.

If the winner was based on games against the east like it really should - including the west game really should be one of the tie breakers, we would be in a three way tie right now with UF and UK.

I don't put much stock in GameDay, as mostly it's there for entertainment purposes and to fill time till kickoff, but I always watch it. What interests me about it is Herbstreit saying he's heard a lot about the Hurd situation since he lives in Nashville and he believes it's addition via subtraction, and the team will be better, and Pollack says something about Butch kicking Hurd off the team. After reading what I've read over the past 10 days, I've found myself in a weird situation. My opinion of Hurd as a person has done a 180...whoda thunk it? I went back and forth with my friends supporting Hurd and saying that no one could run with our O line...boy was I wrong! Crow ain't bad if you use a lot of hot sauce.

Good points. I think the right back can do well in our current offense. Our pass blocking is what really stinks. We need a good passing game for balance. I know Dobbs has been all over the place but much of that is he cannot trust his Oline to protect his blind side.

Every team will load the box on us from now on to stop the run and Dobbs. Until our Oline provides some pass pro, it will be tough times throwing the ball. I could see a lot of QBs struggle with our pass pro.

If they figure out the pass pro, then everything should improve. I just don't think our Coaches know how.

All valid points/questions IMO. Butch is the consummate pitch man. He's full of cliches and one liners, but at some point, it comes down to results. He's running with the big boys in this league. He's got to get the talent, develop the talent and properly use the talent. This applies to players and staff. Not seeing much in the way of results. It will certainly be interesting to see how this team responds now that PW and Hurd are out of the locker room. Were they divisive? Were they the first of several who see the emperor has no clothing? If Butch allowed player(s) to have different sets of rules from the majority of the team and he's lost the respect of the team, I don't see him getting that back. Maybe it's happened sometime/somewhere before, but I don't remember it. That being the case, PW and Hurd become his Kelly Washington. Just hope it doesn't take so long to turn the page on his career in knoxville especially since his results can't hold a candle to Fulmers. He simply doesn't deserve the same respect and "time to right the ship" IMO.

FL's 2015 5-game stretch was about as difficult as Tenn's 2016 4-game stretch (only LSU beat them, by only 7) -- CJMc beat CBJ / won the East his first season.

CBJ, in his 4th season, was beat by Muschamp's / SCe in his first season, by an 18 yr old qb's first SEC start.

Florida is largely a creation of their schedule. Go back and look at how many decent teams they've beaten since they played us in 2015. I'm pretty sure they only above .500 team they've beaten was UGA a full year ago.

They were healthy enough to play good at SC and had a week off. No excuses to play that badly against the SC defense. It's been 4 years. The coaches either missed badly on recruiting or cannot coach them up or both.

I agree we shouldn't have lost to SC, but sometimes people lose games they shouldn't. Fulmer Memphis and Wyoming. Meyer lost to Penn State this year and Va Tech last year. Hell Saban lost a game bc he tried a fg that everybody knew his kicker couldn't make.

Who you got in line to replace him?

Does it matter? I'd take the ghost of Buddy Ebsen at this point. We have not developed players here. But if you want a "list" here is a list - in no particular order - of coaches that I think we could get that would be better than Butch Jones.

Gary Patterson
Larry Fedora
Ric Flair
Bob Stoops
PJ Fleck
The Wendy's Girl
Chris Petersen
Paul Chryst
Linus Van Pelt
Mike MacIntyre
Les Miles
Chevy Chase
Jimbo Fisher
Bobby Petrino
The Shamwow Guy
Matt Rhule
DJ Durkin
Teddy Ruxpin

I get so sick of this false narrative. It doesn't matter if we could be 1-7. It doesn't matter that we're 2 plays from being 7-1.

You are what your record says you are.

And then there are the darling Mississippi teams that everyone was lauding what 2 years ago .... I think there are better teams for them to direct the 5 alarm dumpster fire towards.

It's been an up and down year. We are wide open to criticism. Time for the leaders to step up. If Jones isn't the guy the new AD will clean house. Now the Vols have to win out big to get back some respect.

Yeah , Dobbs, JRM, Sutton, Kirkland, TKjr, Malone, , Jennings. None of those guys have improved over their careers at all.

I can respect that point of view. I just don't see this team being very good. Way too many bad starts and we lucked up to win the close ones. They have played with a lot of heart to come back like they did and I will give them credit for that. We should have never been in those positions in the earlier games if the coaches new how to game plan on offense.

Thank The Good Lord for Jennings. He is a beast

Not really. This was the year the Vols could get back into the picture. And they blew it plain and simple. No player development starts with crappy coaching. And it all starts at the top - and with what we've got at the top - it's not surprising.

Why don't you call up Hart and apply for the job since you believe you are an expert at evaluating coaches?

There's always going to be freaks of nature and natural athletes. If you include Dobbs in this list though you have to be delusional IMO.

Losing to SC after a buy week is unacceptable even with the injuries. Our offense was mostly healthy and they should have put up more points. Our D had multiple injuries and did OK considering. Shoop is a good D-Coord. Our Oline is pathetic. They will probably look all pro today against Tech. I still think our Oline is not being coached up and have no idea how to zone block.

I'm blaming Hurd. I think the team knew he wasn't playing and he still started. It is a mess and hopefully with Hurd gone the team will come together and win out.

Because that moron has both feet out the door already. And if you think Butch is the guy you are clearly no more of an expert than I am IMO. I didn't say I was an "expert" I was asked for a list and I threw one together. I could put 100 people on it ahead of Butch Jones. It's my opinion and I'm certainly entitled to it just as you are yours.
