I got to thinking after seeing a very very young team, get their butts handed to them in the second half,
about last years Senior Driven team and the "all star" cast of coaches we had.
Go back and look at our record from last year and compare first 2 games with this year .
Western Kentucky W 63-7 UT Martin W 50-0
UCLA L 19-15 Oregon L 48-13

Western Kentucky and UT Martin were just warm up games... Dooley just had a little more class not to keep piling it on (imo)

That leads to the mighty Pac 10
2009 we lost to a 7-6 UCLA team that finished 8th in their conference. No excuse for that!

2010 we lost to a senior laden Oregon team that has done nothing but prove they are a top 10 team.
If you take 3 huge plays out of the game last night, it would have looked like a totally different game.
Plus I have never seen an offense get back on the ball and snap it so fast, it had our defense on their heels all night. speed kills!

For all the doom and gloomers out their look at last years game with Ole miss... Lord Kiffin got it handed to him by a middle of the pack SEC team... 42-17
Total offense for game was UT 275 Ole Miss 492
Last night Oregon games Total offense was UT 333 Ore 447... Hmmm that shows me last years Senior laden team verse this year "freshman" team is not much different.

I think this team will regroup and win some games they are not suppose to. nothing like a good but whooping to make you try harder.

yeah there really wouldnt have been much of a difference in score without those huge plays that oregon had. we made some very costly mistakes, had that not happened, the score wouldve been closer and maybe our crowd and team would have not been so down about it and pulled through. shoulda coulda woulda.

any given saturday.
just gotta wait to see who shows up next week.

you know, its very interesting watching my team go through these motions. as fans, most of us are so use to the vols dominating but its been more than a few years since they were truly a feared team, and to watch them slowly build back up into something is exciting. it's going to take time as everyone has been saying all along. the crop of freshman receivers we have are going to be ultimate beasts in the coming years, tyler bray is going to be a beast. and tauren poole....oh my god. the numbers he put up against oregon were staggering.

if we can win the rushing battle next week, we will win. when it comes to uf and ut, the game is almost always decided by the running game.

this is tennessee, we will be feared again one day.....hopefully more sooner than later. we will just have to take our beatings with a grain of salt.

No excuses. We stayed with them for the first half and then once fatigue started settling in, talent took over. It takes one hell of an effort to pull off an upset. The fact of the matter is Oregon is much MUCH better than us at this point in time. Excuses get us no where. We can play "shoulda coulda woulda" all day long but in the end, we got our asses handed to us.

I wouldn't call a couple of thing excuses.....some of these guys were playing high school ball last year....out qb is new to the system and we are short in numbers to the tune of 12 or 13 players. It is jut the way it is and we are going to have to be patient because it is going to take time, but I believe we have some very good people over there and they will get it done. No matter who is coaching or how good, you aren't going to win as many games as you would like til we get the players and that will take some time.

I noticed that on the last play of the FU USF game that urban did NOT have enough class to take a knee with the game well in hand. THAT is why he is the biggest douchebag in the SEC. He has no class whatsoever, and I fully expect him to pile it on if given the opportunity. He isn't in the same galaxy with coach Dolley wrt class. Hell, he isn't even in the same galaxy as Kiffin.

It is getting old and redundant

We need a list....1 through 10 of the top compliants and sure fixes based on our wealth of knowledge...

...then when we post, just use a number.

For example:

#6
and
#3 ....must be fixed NOW!!!

We looked pretty good defensivley early but im afraid we have bigger problems, mainly in the QB play. Before you say it I have been watching Tennessee Football for over 40 years and Simms is gonna have to really elevate his game if we are gonna be close to a 500 team.

Fire everybody and start over. That's what people want so why not have 4 coaches in 4 years. If the new guy don't win a NC the 1st year we fire him too....I think that is the expectation of some fans.

Go Vols! I hate losing! Hate it! Hate it! Hate it! But I believe our guys will come to play game after game. Our guys don't show up to lose. To those of you that are always hating on them....I am sure that you don't show up to do an awful job at work but you sometimes do. Take the same attitude. You can only get better a game or a day at a time. Now get up stop your b----ing and do something!!!!!!!!!!

I just don't understand why Tennessee seems to make the same mistakes no matter WHO is coaching....

Fulmer: Stupid penalties, no tackling defense, bad special teams.

Kiffin: Stupid penalties, no tackling defense, bad special teams.

Dooley (based on last night's game alone anyway...): Stupid penalties (although not as bad as the other two guys...), no tackling defense, bad special teams.

I realize there have been more problems that just these few that I have mentioned but unless Tennessee gets back to solid ST play beatdowns like last night will be a common occurrence this year..... Anybody been keeping an eye on Demps at Florida? I guarantee you he's going to run one back next week.

Very true, and I know nobody here is saying losing is ok, but just because our program is down right now doesn't mean we shouldn't expect our team to go out there every week and win. I was very proud to see everyone (for the most part) on there feet cheering on their team Saturday. Like I said, it's great that we hung with them, but we shouldn't call this a moral victory. This was a loss and hopefully we can use this as motivation to do better and win.
