I always thought he was a bit of a meathead, but this article makes Taylor seem like a really intelligent, well-intentioned guy... sort of like the kind of person you would want to replace Fulmer when he retires. I think they might be pretty similar with respect to the amount of concern they have for their players, both on and off the field. Good for Taylor, I say. I hope he sticks around. :)

I thought the article was an interesting read and a different take on the "Black Coaches" discussion. It spells out qualified candidates to hold top spots, lists their qualifications, and points out that the reason those jobs might not be offerred is because of an unfair pigeon-holing because of race. It is a much better discussion than the usual "6 out of 119" article.

Troop himself summed it up pretty well:

"I'm not playing the race card," Trooper Taylor said. "I'm playing the qualified card. If a guy's able to do the job, don't keep him from doing it just because you're worried about him being a minority. Give him the opportunity because you're fired up about him and believe he can do the job."
