Vols Fall Practice #5

Players are so big and fast these days, injuries are bound to happen.
I hope they stop the full contact drills early enough before the season starts
that players have time to heal.
.
These guys are injured before they even get into full pads and full contact? Gimme a break. At this point, let 'em sit. You don't make the club from the tub. Heck, we're already lacking at the QB position so roll with the younger WRs and see what you have this year. Seems like some of these guys are perpetually injured....at least right before spring practice and fall camp. Time to tie practice time to playing time IMO. Again, let 'em keep watching. I'll take my chances with the younger guys.

I will feel a lot better when the reporters start talking about how one QB has clearly separated and Heupel starts talking about a "clear leader" in the QB room.
The thing is, he probably won't do this. In fact, he definitely won't do this even if he knows already. He speaks very little to what's going on when asked. Just his nature to not give out a lot of info. Now, if a QB had been here last year and played the whole season and everyone knows he is starter thatd be different. But obviously dont have that situation.

The question I keep going back to is can the defense and run game lead us to 10 wins again? Because I just dont see any way the passing game is worse than it was last year. It could be, but I doubt it. It may end up being just as limited as it was last year, which then again we are back to the defense and the run game leading the way.

I think we can get to 8 wins with defense and run game playing solid. They might could find 2 more with a exceptional play and the QB finding ways to make enough plays. But this has been one of the more intersting lead ups to a season in a while for sure.

Exactly! We have unlimited supplies of $$$$ and there is no chance it could affect locker room chemistry. Just pay whatever it takes!
Isn't that easy. Might upset Matthews, Carter or someone else and they might transfer next year. Can't risk that....although I'd wager both those kids will either hit the portal or threaten to do so again next year.

Fewer wr screens due to depth and experience could turn into positives by using the TEs and RBs more. Let’s go from 3-4 catches per game for the 2 groups to 12-15 or more.
I’ll bet $1 we have fewer 3 and outs if we get them 3-4x the targets we did last year.

What worries me is that we were in so many close games last year. If many flip it's a problem. I am also worried that S&C is not completely on point and injuries continue to be a plague.

My comment was a sarcastic response to all those who say “just pay them”, like we have unlimited money and don’t have to operate within any parameters or have anything else (like locker room chemistry) to consider.

Just hit the easy button and pay errybody!

No doubt. The OU game this year is going to be tougher than it was last year. We have it at home which helps, but I think they will be better on offense. UF and Bammer on the road, UGA gonna be tough even though its at home. Another question is do we get over the hump of losing the one we're not supposed to, like a MSU Or Arky again. But the injury concerns are defintiley valid.

Damn, WR may be a bigger issue than expected if these guys can't stay healthy.
Well, the youngsters behind Brazzell and Matthews must be studs since Heupel didn't use the portal. Guess the guys that left just didn't factor into the plans? Weren't good enough? Dunno. I'm sure Heupel has it figured out and has a plan for injuries and/or guys who don't have what it takes. He's on it I'm sure.

#94! I’m liking what I’m hearing about our TE’s. Those guys will be very important depth for a young/thin WR corps. High on both these freshman TE’s. Whitten like guys with a lot of upside potential.

Locker room chemistry is important but a thing in the past. All want a pay check now. Buy thin positions. They don't perform, cut the pay and buy some more.
