Vols Fall Practice #10

On the GoPro front, Nico wore it in the Spring, I think, which might fire up the "who is leading the QB1 competition" debate.

Others can search VN to verify.
Surely the football program can afford 2 gopros. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if e.cain isn't bringing his own GoPro and strapping it on merklingers helmet.

Any info on how Heard is looking at LT and Moe, or others, are looking at LG?

Heard really struggled last year. Hoping to see a lot of improvement there.
Haven't heard anything on Moe

Moe and Pendleton are both really good (as expected via portal) and will start on the Oline. The only question regarding starters by all accounts is whether Pendleton starts at Guard or Center. The lineups potentially are:

Heard
Moe
Satterwhite Center
Pendleton
Sanders

Or

Heard
Moe
Pendleton Center
Perry
Sanders

You are correct that Heard needs to be much improved, i think he will be. He was hurt all year before and 30lbs overweight. He has dropped 30lb and by all accounts is healthy. We should be significantly better this year on Oline. We were great run blocking last year...but abysmal in pass protection and graded out 105th out of ~135 FBS teams overall. Thats including the good run blocking that led the SEC in rushing...so pass pro must have been near the worst in FBS. We should be better at every position this year on Oline except maybe Center.
Can't wait for ball to start. GO VOLS

I think the preferred OL is the 2nd one listed. But I do think we are definitely in a better spot than last season

Yeah this. It’s a whole different world knowing if Heard were to be injured that the replacement would be Warren or Perry. Having 8 guys to play 5 spots is a relief.

On what he likes about Tennessee’s new-look offensive line going into the season

“I like the fact of how they’re coming off the ball. They’re coming off the ball hard, creating seams, vertical seams in the defense for us. They’re doing a really good job playing physical. They’re doing a really good job of playing connected and playing together. Those guys have been tenacious in terms of the way that they came off the ball for us, in terms of being able to run the ball. Their attitude has been tremendous. You see a different mentality in them collectively, which has been good for us.”

What is Eric Cain's problem?? This is getting ridiculous.
-Jake Merklinger (go-pro) appeared to be going first in the rotation this morning in drills, followed by Joey Aguilar and then George MacIntyre.

Elijah Nixon's video clearly shows Aguilar, Merklinger then MacIntyre at the 02 mark.
The 247 video at the top shows Merk (12) going first but who knows.

They can afford one for each player on the team, I'm sure, but they only want one per session on the QBs.

I'd also bet it's not even used except for work we aren't seeing which, as someone speculated, is work on pre snap reads which they can review with the entire room using only one.

Yessir. Perry is SO big and good now that everyone is gushing about him from Ramon on the radio to VQ guys and our coaches. Practice notes from today had Perry in Sanders spot at R Tackle...but all I have read and heard has Perry either starting at Guard or being 1st backup there to Pendleton with Warren as Sanders backup. On the Left side little Heard backs up Big Heard and Sham Umarov is behind Moe. As someone mentioned, we have 8 or 9 legit guys this year on the Oline for the 1st time in CJH tenure. Depth on the Oline!!! Hope we don't need any of it though. I am with you, in thinking Pendleton will start at Center...not because hes a lot better than Satterwhite there, just because that gets Perry on the field at Guard which makes for a better starting 5.

I was impressed with “they might have went outside”🙀

Thats not the only grammar issue sadly. It can be pretty ugly sometimes, and I am no English major...I never attended college. Some of the mistakes are glaring though and even I notice them. Guess their editors clean up their prose before anything goes to print. Unfortunately with online stuff there is no editor to "proof" their words.

Merk has been awful the last few practices him going first doesn’t mean much IMO
Do you have inside knowledge or basing off of what we see here??

What we get here is a small sample of the practice so all we know is he did poorly while reporters were present. No one but the team and coaches know what happens after reporters leave.

Did you just say Nico wore it in the Spring as a verification of who the starter might be? Of course he wore it in the Spring, there wasn't a qb competition lol

the fact that they banned the media from watching routes on air for having a meltdown about the quarterback position even though 2 of the 3 guys in the room completed 85% of their passes yesterday is hilarious!

**** em lmao

I don’t care who starts, but if the 10 minutes of routes on air the media sees, can determine a starting QB at any level, I don’t understand how recruiters can ever miss on a QB recruit. Think about that and how silly it really sounds. Gotta be more to being a starting QB than just throwing to a guy running a route by himself.

More I see and hear from Coach Sims, the more I like him, his mentality, approach to the game as a whole, and work ethic. He's turning out to be a very, very capable replacement for Mack.
Love the line "good is the opponent of great" - always do better.
