Three Tennessee freshmen pitchers combined to hold No. 24 Ole Miss to just six hits but the Rebels limited the Volunteers to just four as they won the series finale, 4-2, on a soggy Sunday afternoon at Swayze Field.

does anybody out there think we will be better next year ? i think we will, if we can get some juco players in the system. i just don't think we will be able to rely on freshmen to really help us. how many juco's do we have coming next season ? i believe we need to start dalton saberhagen as a weekend starter next year. thoughts on that and next season as a whole would be appreciated. thanks.

I think we have to be better. Losing Oz at SS, will miss his play in the field. Serrano did the best he could with Raleigh's team. We knew going in it would be tough...losing Toles, Horne, Blount, Thornton, Godley getting hurt...only made it worse. Kidd and Maddox had good years, so that's a plus. I don't know much about the guys we have coming in, but Serrano knows how to build a team. He's never not had a 30 win season, most were 40 wins, so this must be miserable for him. He clearly thought this team had a chance for Hoover mid way through the season, we ran out of gas.

yeah, i agree we ran out of gas. not only will he not win 30 games, he won't even have a break even season at least. we have no shot at that.

Worst collapse I've ever seen....it's not like we were supposed to be any good but to go from 6-4 in the SEC to 8-19 is just pathetic

we just don't have the talent to compete over the course of a 30 game sec season. better times are coming. i do agree with you, though. no excuse for the last 2 months.

I think pathetic is a understatement. Execrabe, and underachieiving.

The Vols weren't going to be a powerhouse team competing for the SEC East title or the number 1 seed in the SEC overall, but they've had several division games they could have won, and a major difference that would make.

Right now the Vols are playing like the Detroit Lions in the 2010 Season. Were in multiple close games but lost more than they won.

The only thing pathetic about this team is the talent that was put together by the previous staff and the lack of character shown by those kids that were dismissed. Lay off the kids that are left suffering thru the mess left by the previous coaches and nondisciplined players!

I'm not saying they suck but hard to deny they are underachieving.

They have finished exactly where they should have finished based on their talent. They overachieved most of the year and then the kids that were dismissed showed their true character. You have been all over the map and even brought up the possibility of this team sweeping Ole Miss. Not sure what world you are livng in to suggest that as a possiblity. Finishing exactly where their talent level lies isnt underachieving, it's reality.

I said it would be excellent if the Vols could sweep a top 25 team. I was optimistic that was a possibility since Ol Miss was ranked 24th, and they aren't the powerhouse that Florida, and LSU are.
In more than 3 close division games where either they couldn't hold on, or cound't finish coming back.

Small overchievment beating top 25 teams but still not winning any of the series, and so far they have won 1 more division game than last year.

We can agree to disagree on how much they have overchieved. They have overchieved but IMO small.
