Vols didn't play that great

Fook there is lots of room for improvement , in every aspect .

One major area is the guys who get into shoving matches with opponents. All this does it set them up to be ejected from the game, thinning our ranks further. Or have penalties we can ill afford inflicted upon the team. I hope the coaches address this matter.

I agree with the OP, but not in a negative way. This team didn't play anywhere near their best, which you can't really expect them to in week 1. That's very exciting to know their best days are ahead of them and not behind.

Overall I'd give it a B-. Could have been much worse, considering the goal line blunder, PWagg's turf monster, Hunter's dropsies, and the handful of expected blown assignments on defense.

Could have hit 50 easy.

On a side note, Bray's best game IMO. Against a very touted secondary he hit the long ones, and seemed to learn the value of the check down or throw away. And never seemed frustrated with the dropped passes. He knows Hunter has great hands.

"Not very good" would have garnered a C rating at best.

Amen!! ...and thank you for your service Sir!!

We could have scored 50 easy. Fumble at the goal line and a few other missed scoring oppoutunities kept us from really running the score up. But I think we are all missing the fact that it was just the first game. The mistakes we saw last night can be easily fixed. Will we win the SEC...doubt it. Will be able to beat teams that the "experts" say we will lose...probably. We beat NC State last night and the"experts" said we probably wouldn't.

I am amazed how people are finding negativity in my post. Wow.

My point was: how good can we really be? I am psyched about this win!

Op is right but we for sure played good, there is room for improvement of course but it was our first game.I noticed a few things that should excite UT fans. To me, we looked mentally tough. Last year it seemed we would have one thing not go our way, and we would get down and play like crap, maybe for the rest of the game. It really looked like we were playing mentally and physically tough. I believe the toughness made us better at things like missing tackles, dropping passes, and picking up yards after contact. Everyone also looked way more comfortable and experienced. We look like we know what we are doing. We were inconsistant at times but i think overall, we played intense, and we looked knowledgeable and experienced.

They is always room for improvement, but the game we seen, after the defense turned up the heat after the 1st quarter... I think we played a helluva game.

Can you not just be happy? Hardly any team is going to be 100% in the opening game
Sidenote: it doesn't matter if PW scores on the interception, it wouldn't have counted anyways, as their was a penalty during the run-back

I think we played as good as could be expected for the first game of the season. If we find the ability to consistently run up the middle, look out SEC!

Harsh, but B.

I think the D did quite well for a first game and against the opponent.

The run game disappointed me.

Run game disappointed? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they have well over 100 yards rushing? I'm thinking I saw that it was around 130 yards. Lane had 75 of those on only 9 carries. That averages out to a little over 8 yards per carry.

You got to factor in CP's run. I am more disappointed in the short yardage play calls. Fumble or not Bray has a hard time with the sneak. If we can't pound it inside at some point it will bite us in the orange.

The final yds r was 191. :hi:

Great game! 4 INTs and a safety! We only had 9 or 10 all of last season and I don't recall any safeties at all. Also, consistent pressure on the QB finally! Running game was okay, but everyone is right about Neal needing to get North South more. Lane looked a bit more comfortable running between the tackles. I do like the change up from Neal to Lane though. I was surprised by the kicking game, much more solid than one would expect from reading these boards all off season.

I saw some things that bothered me, like a few too many wide open receivers, thankfully NC State dropped the ball on several of these. These worry me when we get to conference play though. FL among most others will likely exploit those types of opportunities if we provide them.

Overall, there is far more to be excited about than not at this point. Hell, just yesterday half the nation's football "gurus" were saying UT would be the upset of opening weekend. I am so grateful that we are on the giving side of the ESPN highlight reel this time around. Based on where NC State was at the end of last season, they seemed like pretty strong competition to open with. We will see how they perform the rest of the season, but it is not out of the realm of expectations that they could end up 3rd in their conference. I'll certainly be rooting for them the rest of the season now. To me, this was a great fine tuning opportunity for the team 2 weeks before one of the biggest rivalry games of the season.

Barring major catastrophe during the next two weeks, I fully expect this team to be riding a full fledged surge of confidence and excitement heading into FL at home with a 2-0 record. Might be the best chance we have really had to finally turn the tables and end their incessant embarrassment of us. We win that game, we can finally feel like we are turning that mediocrity corner and headed back to the top where we belong!!

My heart goes out to the family of the Tennessean that died following a fall during the game. I will keep them in my prayers... Sad this happened on what should have been a happy night of celebration for him. Puts things in perspective for sure.

GO VOLS!!!!!!

:unsure:Anybody know why Lane isnt getting more playing time he looked good when he was in just wondering.
