Haha,,,,

"Pearl has led the Vols to an average 25 wins each season, a regular season Southeastern Conference championship, three SEC East titles, the school's first No. 1 AP ranking and four NCAA tournament appearances."

I think he earned it.

what's an SECe title?

a banner...we were best team in SEC two seasons ago and were regular season champions...I know the SEC declares a team regular season champs along with tourney champ but do they actually give that team anything?

I understand the regular season champ means something (should mean more than the tourney champ but anyway) but I really don't think the SECe champ is something to celebrate. The last UT coach who started touting those is.....

And Mike Hamilton is taking the same God-forsaking path with this coach as the one you referenced above...

Pearl is now making essentially twice what Jay Wright is. That's an utter disgrace.

So, we're paying an extra 200k to a coach who is spending the start of the most important part of recruiting season off in Israel coaching in a meaningless tournament to stroke his ego while other elite coaches are out evaluating talent? Brilliant.

Why evaluate talent when you can get the Goins' of the world?

I can't believe Pearl is getting a pass on this. Can you imagine people's reaction if Fulmer had chosen coaching a Promise Keeper's sack race over going out on the road in an evaluation period?

They would be furious, and rightfully so.

I don't see Pearl catching any heat for being off on his little pilgramige while his peers are doing their jobs, do you? If he were off coaching Team USA in the WUGs or the under 19 world's, that's one thing. That's a recruiting draw and allows you to establish relationships with elite players from other schools that might be beneficial later. What Pearl is doing is simply taking a vacation during an essential work period.

Fuad Reveiz and Tim Irwin would have went along as well and cried openly out of pure pride for "their coach."

Some of you guys are a trip,,,, I guess you all have been whining and bi****ng for what - ever and always?

If you are not at least semi-pleased with Pearl, you could not have seriously been happy with any coach who has sat on that bench. When I was a kid I saw Mears and his incredible stop and watch paint dry offense. Then all the rest after have been pathetic.

Is it so wrong for a fan to want to get passed the Sweet Sixteen at some point during his or her lifetime?

He could be recruiting all those high-school standouts from Isreal as we speak. Maybe he's looking for the next Doron Sheffer or Oded Kattash.

Two of those "pathetic" coaches have gone every bit as far as Tanning Bed in the NCAA Tournament. Also, what does your rambling diatribe have to do with Bronzer Boy going on sabbatical at the start of the July evaluation period?

Not at all, and I can say that a six year extension is way too long. On the plus side, the salary level is climbing - Basketball is finally becoming relevant at Tennessee and
if BP doesn't make the grade in a couple of years or three we can basically go out and get a top ten type coach to fill his shoes and perhaps elevate us to that elite level.

Every coach gets a contract in one hand and a pink slip in the other - undated of course. Higher salaries make for higher expectations. So - its all good.
