On the defensive line, Trinity Bell, in a non-contact jersey, worked with the defensive line. The Alabama native redshirted this year as he recovered from a torn ACL. I don’t know how good Jordan Phillips is going to be but he bends pretty well and seemed fairly comfortable in the leverage drills.

After working a great deal on the side on Monday, Tyler Baron was back with the defensive line group going through all the drills. Andison Coby is a guy who looks quick, cuts well. He needs to catch the ball better, but athletically Coby moves as well as any receiver.

Both Hendon Hooker and Cedric Tillman look like they have been throwing together the last two weeks. Their timing was on point on Tuesday morning.

Cade Mays didn’t practice again on Tuesday and neither did Elijah Simmons. Jaylen Wright was in a non-contact jersey again on Tuesday.

Players are scheduled to arrive in Nashville from where ever they are spending the holidays on Christmas night. Tennessee will practice the morning of the 26th with the game on Thursday the 30th.

The current staff recruited neither Trinity Bell nor Kaemen Marley and hasn't gotten to see much of either since their arrivals in the summer, and the Vols look to be evaluating those athletes in different positions.

After working with the tight ends on Monday, Bell was going through drills with the defensive line on Tuesday. The 6-foot-7 freshman, listed at 265 pounds, was in a non-contact jersey with a brace on his leg as he isn't yet 100% cleared from his knee injury he suffered nearly a year ago. Bell was a two-way player in high school, lining up at tight end and defensive end, and Tennessee appears to be assessing him at both this month.

Marley, the former Top247 prospect, was listed as a defensive back after he enrolled in June and started out at wide receiver back in the preseason, but he appearing to be working with the linebackers on Tuesday morning. Marley played safety on defense in high school and very much looked like he was new to linebacker drills as he needed correction on multiple reps as the Vols drilled their footwork in shooting gaps under the chute, but he seemed willing to take the coaching. He's another versatile athlete the Vols are still evaluating because he didn't get much of a preseason due to injury.

Elsewhere, still no Cade Mays (ankle) with the offensive line. The trio getting early reps in individual work at right tackle were Dayne Davis, Jeremiah Crawford and William Parker. The trio repping at left tackle were Darnell Wright, K'Rojhn Calbert and RJ Perry.

Players still in non-contact jerseys: Running back Jaylen Wright and defensive backs Theo Jackson and De'Shawn Rucker.

2022 signee Jordan Phillips again went through drills with the defensive line as he gets a jumpstart on his Tennessee career.

I tried to catch as many glimpses of the Milt man as possible. Just to see if the coaching is having an effect or not. Didn't see enough, but the ball still seems to jump from his hand with velocity. Wish I could see how receivers reacted to that. I do wonder about the silence on him by the text practice reports.

Same thing I did. I was hoping they showed a little bit more of him but I noticed too that the ball had some zip on it

I have to add one thing on Milton. What he endured during this season was brutal and would have sent most prima donnas packing out the door. Regardless of how irritated I have been with his overthrows and his step-out on the last play against Ole Miss, one has to admire his making an attempt to be a team player and support his mates. I would dearly love to see CJH get him tweaked enough to be a threat on completing deep balls and teaching him how to improve his mobility and run decision/execution.
And we have to point out that he put a ball in the end zone that would have completed a comeback for the ages against Johnny Reb.....he delivered an almost perfect ball that Tillman was just out of balance to be able to reach up and snag. But it was closer than many realized.
So I'm pulling for JM to step up enough to be a viable back up.

How much eligibility does Milton have remaining? Could he redshirt 21-22 season since he didn’t play more than 3 games?
