JaJuan had a great night. He really impressed me defensively.

I was surprised that Ramar did not start. I know that the starters are not set yet, but still, I thought he would be the no. 1.

He is starting in Friday's game. That said, I was surprised also.

For the love people, overrated and underrated tags have nothing to do with whether or not the player is going to be a flop. Get out a dictionary or just learn our language better. Ramar Smith is overrated, he is not the 30th best player to come out of high school last year (that was his rivals ranking). On the same token, M. Johnson and J. Tabb are better than their ranking, thus being underrated.

I'm glad, Mr. High School Basketball Lord, that you cleared that up.

Once you're done with that, try to get over yourself, too.

It's comforting to know that Ramar could score anytime he wanted to against the Tennessee College for the Blind.

Haha, good one. That stung. Mr. High School Basketball Lord...what does that even have to do with anything? It doesnt even make sense.

What exactly set you off about my posts? I made a simple observation after watching several practices that 2 of our freshman are 'better than expected' and 1 is probably not the 'savior of the program' like many assumed. People turned that simple opinion into Ramar Smith being a flop and Tabb and Johnson being all-americans and it was too early to say that. Overrated and underrated have nothing to do with being a flop or a all-american and that was all I was pointing out.

I don't see how watching a few practices and scrimmages and an exhibition game would tell you whether or not Ramar Smith is "overrated". We have not even scratched the surface of the season and he is having to learn a very complex system where he needs to be virtually mistake free. Also, I do not see how you can say Johnson and Tabb are underrated. They have done nothing against quality competition yet to warrant being classified as "underrated".

The evaluation of Ramar Smith was based on his skill set, which I saw a good bit of and his lack of intensity (that was one of his knocks in high school). I am saying he is a poor outside shooter, who is quick, but not ultra-quick. He has good handles. His man-to-man defense is average. You guys are acting like I said he was not any good. I did not say that, being overrated does not mean he is a bad player. He was rated in the Top 30 in the country coming out of high school and when he was cleared it was the answer to all our problems at PG. Well, all I said was he is not a Top 30 player nationally.

Tabb and Johnson being underrated has nothing to do with playing against quality competition. It has to do with the skill sets they have and the intensity at which they play the game. Tabb was rated a 2-star and was being talked about as a redshirt. He is in the 10-man rotation as of right now. I would say that means he is probably a little better than previously thought, thus underrated.

I don't see how you can say that he isn't a Top 30 incoming freshman based on what you have seen of him in practice, scrimmages, and an exhibition game. We are less than a month into the season. Also, you probably haven't seen that much action from other freshman around the nation to know how he compares at this point. You keep mentioning "skill sets" and that is all well and good, but it is how they use those "skill sets" when on the court against Texas, Memphis, OK St., and the SEC opponents that should and will determine if they are over/underrated.

By the way, I like the fact that I can disagree with you and have a discussion without you getting bent out of shape like many of the other people on this board.

Perusing the box score, I noticed one thing I didn't particularly consider encouraging, be it a pre-season exhibition game or not... the Vols shot only 24-40 from the free throw line. Ouch.

And, they only outrebounded them by 6. That number is even more discouraging when you consider they did not have many rebounds to grab since we shot like 100% from the floor.

Until they play a team that will challenge them, we're not going to know anything about this team or the players. They may make the free throws if it's a big game... and they may focus more on getting rebounds. In a game like last night, I'd say the intensity left after the first 5 minutes of the game.

coach pearl was at men's club meeting sunday -
he stated : very happy with all the freshmen
tabbs - the biggest surprise of all to him - thinks he will be a shut down defense player and then added - he can play.
this is not to take away from the others for they are as good as he thought.stated- crews and chism will have to share the center position. smith will have to share point this year but would be better at the shooting guard position with his slashing style.

Most points ever scored by a Tennessee team. I know Lemoyne-Owen is no SEC team, but it's hard to put up 126 points on anyone.
My take on the game: The team looked better than I expected. There are going to be alot of battles for positions. JuJuan Smith was top scorer with 22 and looked like he has improved his game since last season. Tony Passley was the biggest suprise for me. He played very well around the basket and in transition. Ramar started slow but, man is he quick and very unselfish with the ball. Crews and Chism played well also with some nice dunks. Crews had one play where he blocked a shot on one end and sprinted upcourt to recieve a pass for an easy one-handed dunk. Tennessee for most of the game played about 11 players. Our perimeter looks leaps and bounds above where we were with last year's team. Looks to be an exciting season!

Thanks for the update.

How many steals / turnovers did they force?
