Vols are on the way back

It was the first time in a long time I saw Tennessee look as big and as fast as another “big boy” in the SEC. they did eventually wear us down in the second half because all those top UGA recruiting classes has given Smart a lot more depth. But I was very happy with the physicality of our players the first half.

absolutely correct. Also I think we faced the best team in the SEC last night. Ga. will finally beat Alabama. Even though last night hurt I feel that we will go 7/3 with a very possible 8/2 and EVERYONE at the beginning of the season agreed that that would be a fantastic year with a 10 game SEC schedule.

If we go 7-3 or 8-2 with JG at QB all year then miracles still happen.

D was outstanding. UGA just had more Jimmies and Joes. Our depth was too much in the second half. Good luck the rest of the way.

That’s interesting. Our offensive line is a bunch of 5* players who have starting experience, and you think the reason they got manhandled was because uga “had more jimmies” on their dline?

We have the best front seven in CFB. No one has run on UGA in 2 years, except UK in 2019. I think they had 175 yards in a monsoon.

As fast? Did you watch the game? UT doesn’t have near the speed of Georgia and one or two recruiting classes isn’t changing that. Pruitt was partly hired for recruiting. It’s been subpar so far. Everyone will now say, oh, but he got so and so. And??? Need those types for every position, not just two. If we had every kid we ended up 2nd for, we would be Alabama or Georgia. He gets us in the convo, HAS to close.

Can’t continue to fill recruiting classes with half (or more) 3 stars. 3 stars should be the exception, not the norm.

If we had a decent QB it could have been a different outcome, I'll say this though, that's the best defense I have seen probably in the last 20 years. Better than any D the tide has put out on the field during their dynasty.

UGA has also had a bunch of 5* on their OL for years. Who do we think their DL practices against every day? Iron sharpens Iron. Our DL played lights out yesterday (IMO). Hopefully they practice that hard every day and make both the OL and DL better as a result.

Zippy, I know you‘ve mentioned you are an old fart, what is that Ga defense comparable to? Greatest defense is the 98 UT defense, amazing speed at each level. Are they equal?

THIS, have to recruit every position equally as hard. Iron sharpens iron. Good point.

It'd difficult to compare different eras. IIRC, 98 Vols had some superstars. In the 55 years I have watched UGA, this is the best D I have seen. One year our entire defense was drafted and had superstars like Seymour, Stroud, Champ Bailey, etc. However, this is the most complete, best coached, best defense UGA has ever fielded. You won't face anything like it again this season.

It is happening. Remember, Pruitt walked into a dumpster fire. No five star would touch us with a ten foot poll at that point. Each year we improve it unlocks more talented players willing to risk their future to come here. For reference look at Dabo at Clemson. He went 6-6 his second season and almost got fired. He slowly changed the culture at Clemson. Started slowly improving his win/loss ratio which gave him access to better recruits and the rest is history. I saw a Tennessee team last night that was outmatched for sure but the gap is narrowing. Just a few years ago we looked like a JV team out there. Just be patient.

Minus 1 yard rushing as a team means we're back?
I refuse to delude myself and believe possibly the worst offensive performance in tennessee history is a sign we are headed in the right direction. That was the worst coached, worst executed offensive showing I've watched. The defense was solid but in year three there is no excuse for that piss poor offense.
