"Tennessee and Wisconsin players had a welcome dinner provided by Outback Steakhouse on Wednesday. Here's what they consumed: 5,500 pounds of food, including 750 pounds of steak and chicken, 900 ribs, 700 Caesar salads, 950 Bloomin' Onions, 1,300 slices of chocolate cake, 85 gallons of BBQ sauce, and 60 cases of soda and water. -- Tennessean "

I'm sure Phil had at least 200 slices of chocolate cake.

That's no small feat... I wonder how that matches up with the other bowls?

I don't see how this is even possible. It couldn't be "just" the players. 700 Caesar salads?? 1300 pieces of cake?? Say each team has ... ohhh ... 150 players. That means every player had almost 2.5 salads and almost 4.5 pieces of cake. Not counting everything else.

i think once you count in coaches, AD's, SID's, GA's, trainers, equipment managers, etc, you're probably close to adding at least 50 people on each side. I would think the cheerleaders and bands got to join in as well. Plus imagine how much Smokey probably ate.

Probably add in wives and kids for all of these people as well. I'd say it adds much more than 50 per side

Possibly, but outside the coaches and upper AD's, all other families most likely had to pay their way down there. They could have got the free meal though.

however, if they really ate 950 bloomin onions, that should still average to about 2 bloomin onions per person with even the highest estimate of consumers. That's nasty. Heart attack nasty.

When our team was fed in Knoxville before they left it was the whole team, whole coaching staff, and probably 50 members of the media (at least).

Each player put down about 6-10 wings, some bloomin onion, 8oz chicken, 12oz sirloin, and cheesecake, plus whatever else they could scavenge from other players and whatever extra food they could get brought out.

I figure each "team" had around 225-250 people after you get in team, coaches, media, managers, family of coaches, etc.

They didn't even get to leave until yesterday. No free Outback for the band. Not sure about the cheerleaders.
