Tennessee, just 1 game into 2016 had a few weaknesses show up against Appalachian State.
If you had to pick an Achilles Heel for team 120, what would you guess will be the 1 thing that limits this team?

1. Mike Debord/play calling

2. Dobbs inability to throw the deep or intermediate pass

3.Vols Oline

4. poor tackling on defense

5. Combination of 1 and 2

6. Turnovers

7. Coaching. In general. Not just DeBord.

I've seen Butch get outcoached more times than not, and almost always in a big game. He rarely makes successful second half adjustments. Coaching is our achilles heel at the moment. I have still yet to be impressed by him. The last time I vividly remember Butch standing out above the crowd was the Georgia 2013 game. Trick plays, going for it on 4th down, TRICK PLAYS ON 4th DOWN, I mean just name it. He coached a hell of a game that night, but ever since that game most times he has just looked overmatched.

Sign me up for number 1. Coaches are suppose to set players up for success. See absolutely none of that with Deboring.

I'll have to go with 1 and 3, because if the Oline can't pass protect and or run block, Dobbs passing will suffer even more and teams will continue to crowd the box to stop the run

The Achilles Heel from the Appy State game was overconfidence.

From the game plan to the O line to the fan base. we didn't expect such a tough opponent.

We won't make that mistake again.

That less than 2 yds on 1st down against Appalachian State was perhaps a fluke? I sure hope so!

Number 3 really affects number 2. Number 1 will be improved this week once he opens that little bitty playbook of his. 4 & 5 won't be bad. I thought the tackling was pretty solid last game. We usually do a good job keeping the turnovers down. Dobbs doesn't throw many picks and we usually hold on to the ball well. I know he threw a horrible pick last game and there was a muffed punt, but that isn't the norm with this team.

1. Right now, given the small sample size, I'd say play calling. Bud Foster said in interview, "I also thought, compared to what I saw last year, Tennessee was very vanilla," Foster said. "We're expecting to see a little bit more of what they did last year in this ballgame."

All of the above. We couldn't tackle, run, pass or coach. Hope it was just a first game fluke

I don't get where people are getting this from. Was the tackling that bad? I watched the game twice and thought it was good. There wasn't a ton of broken tackles and not many if any breakout plays. I guess I'm just used to how bad tackling was under Dooley, that I thought it looked pretty good last Thursday night.

Dobbs will have to execute plays down the field. According to ESPN, Dobbs completed just 1 of 12 pass attempts of 30 yards or more last season, worst among Power 5 QBs.

By this, you are implying that good coaching means running trick plays and going for it on fourth down when we have a strength in our punter.

No one has a clue yet what our weakness will be. Way, WAY too early.

My fear is that the real problem is what VFL34 alluded to during the game last Thursday, and that's that the team believes their #9 ranking alone is good enough to get it done. If this isn't corrected, it's on Butch.
