Vols "41" in USA today poll

These early rankings do matter. It takes longer to move up the lower you start on the rankings. Voters tend to slide people up and down depending their performance each week, so where you start makes a difference.

Spare me the "true fan" argument.

Right. Given the maroon, "Aggie Fan," team choices, your calling TN "you," etc... the "VOL" in your username seems like a bit of a stretch.

But hey, you have the banal comebacks and condescending tone... oh, and 22K posts! Maybe you are a "true fan" after all.

I know Auburn isn't a top 25 team most likey I think they should start out #1. whoever wins the NC the previous year should always start out number 1 the next year.

Unless they, you know, return 6 of 22 starters like Auburn's doing.

Maybe an asinine point of view, but I gotta preface it by saying I know preseason rankings are the equivalent of Canada's army-- pretty useless...

Anyway, I know we're far from ranked, but the fact that we got 7 votes, that means at least 7 coaches think we're good enough to be ranked 25th.

Or do you guys think 6 of those votes came from the 6 SEC coaches that are part of the poll, picking us only for their own reasons (building us up so that it looks like the SEC is that much better or so that we look like a quality opponent)?
I know it's a pretty small thing to think about, but possibly one that could have some (minimal) effect on BCS standings down the road.

What does VN think?

IS TN the best of the "other's receiving votes" teams? Id say TN would have a good shot to beat any of these teams head to head?

Out of those ahead of us on the others receiving votes, I'd say we would be favored against UCF, USAF, UH, USF and Hawaii, would be a toss-up with Iowa, N'Western, Zona, Michigan, UNC and maybe Clemson, and would be dogs against ASU, WVU, Utah and The U.

Id say TN is favored over ASU on neutral field, but otherwise, your probably right on your list.

Kind of a side point -

I hate it how half the voters vote based on "where they think the team will end up" rather than the actual criteria - which teams do you think are the best.

That is why these average teams end up in the top ten, because they have such easy schedules, and the voters say "that team will go 11-1 against that schedule so I'll vote them in the Top 10" even though the teams with much harder schedules - expected to go 9-3, 8-4 are better but voted lower.

Im now done venting about the polls.

Couldn't muster a Cotton Bowl pic? I'm disappoint.
