Vols #4 in the AP Poll 9/29/24

After the results of this weekend, Bama deserves to be #1.

It will just make it that much sweeter when we defeat them on Rocky Top and claim their spot as #1
I remember last time we beat Bama at Neyland claimed #1 and then went to Georgia afterwards.
Just win and let the chips fall where they may. That #1 ranking carries a bullseye on it.

Last time UT had the #4 ranking and played a so-so Arkansas team the next Saturday, the hogs won with a FG as time expired. It was the beginning of the end of the Majors era.
TCB and it all takes care of itself.

That was not a "so-so" Arky team. It was an Arky team that had lost to Citadel. It was a top five or six "terrible loss" of all time kind of game. Interim coach. Wow 92 what could have been.

Also, from a local supporter kind of view, pretty cool to see Indiana in the Top 25. Curt Cignetti is definitely changing the culture in Bloomington.

Dude 100% I can’t believe what he’s doing they have so little talent it’s crazy.
If any brain matter whatsoever existed in Gainesville they would already be laying the groundwork to make Cignetti the new Gator head man next season. I would much rather have big game Kiffin down there than Cignetti.

😂 He hasn’t had the Sun Belt washed off him long enough for the gators to look at him seriously.

I think Florida messes this up again though. They have too much of a dumpster fire administratively right now to get the right people in place. Corruption and incompetence from top to bottom it seems like. Florida if they get all that worked out could be a top job but they need to get a president in place then an AD as well before they can even think about getting a decent coach. Of course they could get lucky but I doubt it.

Yeah I thought the only thing holding them back from looking at him would be be the sunbelt (Billy) thing . I guess as a concept I can see where that might be an issue for them but I think this guy is the next big thing in the coaching world . I’ve been wrong before but we shall see . I hope it’s an issue for them because I think that guy would do well there if UF ever figures out the NIL.

A lot of coaches with options will pass on Florida right now.

I don’t want him to go anywhere. Stay at IU for IU’s sake and to stay away from anything he could do here. BUT at his age I honestly think he has a better shot (as crazy as it sounds) to do something like make the playoffs in a couple years at IU than in the SEC. His talent is AWFUL. Yet he’s making inroads already. If he had a schedule in two years like he has this year I think he could get to the Big Ten championship. Heck it’s not completely out of the realm this year.

He’s get clobbered in the playoffs but if he wins every game he could and should, all he’d need is an upset of Michigan at home (unlikely but not impossible) and he’s a one loss team this year (assuming he loses to OSU.

That is an insane turnaround considering being the coach at IU of all places.

That's a depressing stat. On the flip side, how many games have we won as the #1 ranked team?

Tougher to determine but by my count we are 16-1 as the #1 ranked team as determined by the AP with the only loss coming to Maryland in the 1952 Sugar Bowl.

We were #1 for a week in the CFB Playoff poll in '22, but a) we were not #1 in the AP that week (#2) and b) we lost that week to UGA.
