Vols' 2019 schedule released

I know every team does it but I cannot stand these cupcake games. I cannot stress this enough. It’s a waste of a Saturday. I went to UTEP last weekend and it was completely pointless. Fans are quiet and bored, teams is lethargic and sloppy. Even if the team plays well it’s still garbage. This needs to change. Go to 9 game SEC schedule and other games have to be power 5. The 2019 schedule is one of the worst I’ve seen for UT.
I get what you're saying, but I drove 3 hours from Georgia for the utep game, and just loved being there.

I couldn't agree more!.... I would have fallen asleep at the UTEP game if it weren't for a guy kneeing me in the back!
If we go 9 games, then our 3 West opponents should alternate each year. Yes, that means we would play BAMA every other year in most cases, but I don't particularly care for 2-3 years between meetings when they beat us like a drum annually.

BYU is not considered a Power 5 program. The Power 5 == the 5 top conferences, plus Notre Dame.

Other independents are not included. I'd love if they were, though. Would be good for Army!

Good news for you, then! According to the SEC, both BYU and Army are considered Power 5 programs, as of 2015.
SEC will consider Notre Dame, BYU and Army as Power Five opponents

The Big10 also considers both BYU and Army as Power 5 programs, as well as Cincinati and UConn. The ACC considers BYU a Power 5 program but not Army.

Well that's going to be an easier schedule than normal. The bye is even at a good time. SC is still in the cat bird seat after Bama. But, it will be a good year to help us build.

Pretty favorable schedule. MISS STATE is good but they aren’t some top tier out of conference opponent or Auburn/LSU being thrown into our murderers row. Finally opening with an easy team too.

I think if we get to a bowl this year, sign a top 10 recruiting class, and keep improving under Pruitt we will win 9-10 games next year! Call me crazy 😜 but I truly believe that’s the direction we’re headed. Year 3 we are in the SEC championship and hopefully playoff conversation!

The only problem is we play Bama, UGA, and Florida and our other conference foes are no longer the cupcakes they used to be. So, we need a few cupcakes. I just wish it would be cupcake, decent team, cupcake, UF, UGA,bye, Miss state, Bama, bye,USC, UAB, Mo, Kentucky, Vandy.

We don’t need cupcakes. We just need to get back to being Tennessee and the rest will take care of itself.

There's no way you could do that without some significant concessions from the NCAA. It isn't the NFL where you just sign someone else when your roster gets depleted. You would have to raise the scholarship limit to allow more players in the program if you did something like that. Otherwise, your roster wouldn't survive the season. Title 9 probably wouldn't like that very much.

Also, if you took away the "cupcake" games, you would effectively destroy many of those programs and take away opportunities for a lot of players to play at the collegiate level. Many of those schools fund a big portion of the AD budget with funds from those games.

Just have each big state schools write those small schools checks every year to support them and/or play only one “cupcake” per year.

Loses to Alabama & Florida are automatic.

Vandy's q.b. will be gone to the N.F.L. & we will be improved, so this gives us a likely win.

Ky. will be competitive but we will be better, so I see this as a win.

Missouri's offense is built around their q.b. but he is gone to the N.F.L. after this season. Advantage = us.

UGA will likely be a loss.

USC will be good but we will finally have a team that will beat a Muschamp coached team.

BYU is good, but they don't usually play S.E.C. teams. We beat them.

We beat the remaining 3 Non Conference teams.

We beat us SEC West opponent...

How is Florida already an automatic loss?

I have to ask; what makes you think you will be better than Georgia by year 3? Seems as though you are looking through orange tinted glasses. I get hoping that, but to actually “truly believe” that seems somewhat odd.

Congrats to MSU. Being that you are on our schedule, you will be playoff contenders next year.

Very true. Seems that whatever West team rolls around on our schedule, they're going to be good. Even a "mid-tier" team like MS State, when they get on Tennessee's schedule is the year they're a Top 10 team.
