Vols 2019 Class – Early Signing Day Edition
(Edited 9:00 PM 12/18)

After several weeks of a downward trend, things appear like we could be in for an exciting Early Signing Period. I am only going to touch on our targets that plan to (or possible could) sign next week during the Early Signing Period.

Looking Good:

  • Darnell Wright 5* OT (90% chance we sign him/10% chance he signs early) – This is, in my opinion, the biggest fish left in the pond for us. We have been trending in his recruitment for a long time now, many thanks to Coach Neidermeyer. UGA appears to be the only threat remaining. He was planning to visit UGA on an OV this weekend, only to cancel and visit UT, again. He has never planned to sign early, but there have been rumors swirling that he may decide to do that. Hopefully we get some good news next week, and he will join Wanya to be our bookend tackles for years to come. Summer Enrollee (Edit: Sounds like he will not be signing early.)
  • Eric Gray 4* RB (95% chance we sign) – The all purpose back out of Memphis, has been a top target for Pruitt and Co. since the summer. He has been a UT lean since his decommitment from Michigan. He had originally planned to visit Texas A&M this weekend, but cancelled that visit to come to UT for the 3rd time in the last month. All signs point to him signing with the good guys next week. Early Enrollee Announcing 12/20 12:00 PM EST
  • Quavaris Crouch 5* LB (85% chance we sign/10% chance he signs early) – One could make the case that this is the biggest recruit left on the board. He was considered the #1 player in the 2019 class for a long time, however injuries have caused him to fall in the rankings. When healthy he is a beast. This appears to be a two team race between us and Clemson. Clemson has long been considered the favorite. However, with the coaches in-home visit, and the fact he came to campus this weekend on an unofficial visit, Clemson has to be concerned. The smoke is there for us be the team with the momentum. Crouch will be signing next week, but he will not announce his choice until the Under Armor All American Game on Jan 5th. Summer Enrollee (Edit: Appears he may not be signing this week. Unsure of his intentions on signing at this time. Appears like the weekend visit has shifted all momentum to the good guys. The crystal balls have started rolling in. He does not appear to be signing early.) Announcing 1/5 @ 12:00 AM EST

Puncher’s Chance:

  • Noah Cain 4* RB (15% chance we sign) – We entered this recruitment out of left field but it appears as if we have a legitimate shot. Penn State is considered the favorite to land the 4 star running back out of IMG Academy. Noah came in on an OV this weekend and brought the whole family with him. Hopefully this weekend visit can overcome his history with Penn State. Would be a huge coup for Pruitt and Co. to seal the deal here. Early Enrollee (Edit: Seems like he a had a great visit. I still feel like we are the underdog in this trying to overcome Penn State.) Announcing 12/19 @ 11:00 AM EST
  • Jaylen Ellis 3* WR (50% chance we sign) – The Baylor commit has been flirting with both UT and UTjr (Texas), as a possible flip candidate. Ellis plans to sign next week and announce at the All American bowl in January. It appears like we have the momentum heading into his decision and he may be the WR recruit we add to play alongside Ramel Keyton. Summer Enrollee (Edit: Seemed to enjoy his visit as much, if not more than anyone else. Like many of our recruits, early playing time is a factor. Looks to be a UT, MICH, ARIZ, and Baylor battle. Will not be signing early.) Announcing 1/5 @ 11:00 AM EST
  • Javonta Payton 3* JUCO WR (70% chance we sign) – The Tennessee native was once a CBJ target before having to go JUCO. He has long been a target of Pruitt and Co. for several months. Payton committed to Mississippi State after some speculation that he may have been slowed played by UT. Once thought as gone, the speedy wideout made a “low-key” visit to Knoxville this weekend, making this one to watch. Summer Enrollee (Edit: Simonton says we are in a "good" spot here. It has been very quite, we will see if any smoke comes from the MSST side. Things continue to look good for the Vols. No specific signing time scheduled at this time.)
  • Nick Figueroa Unranked JUCO DL (30% chance we sign) – The California native will be hard to pull away from the West Coast, as it appears UCLA and USC are the favorites to land this JUCO recruit. He made his first trip to Knoxville this weekend, so anything could happen. (Edit: Seems like a great kid, and would be a solid pickup at the biggest position of need. Seems like we have made a legit push, but it will still be hard to draw him away from USC.)

Long Shots:

  • Jamie Pettway 3* LB (10% chance we sign) - It will be interesting to see if he is given the green light between now and Wednesday. It appears as though he is lower down the LB totem poll. Although he did receive a visit from Sherrer on Thursday. If he was holding off until February then I could see a clearer path to him being in the class. As of now, I think this staff keeps pushing for To'oto'o, Russell, and tries to hold onto Lakia Henry. (Edit: Looks to heading to Mizzou.)
  • Jadon Haselwood 5* WR (5% chance we sign) - I did not include his name on the list originally because I felt as though we didn't have a shot. There have since been some rumblings, but I still feel like this one is a LONG shot. The UGA De-Commit has a top 5 of Miami, FSU, Georgia, and Oklahoma. It has long been considered that UGA, OU, and MIA are the teams to beat. Haselwood unofficially visited the Vols last weekend. Early Enrollee
  • Justin Eboigbe 4* DE (5% chance we sign) – Being an Alabama commit and visiting Tuscaloosa this weekend, shows that it is unlikely he signs anywhere but UA.
  • Trezman Marshall 4* LB (0% chance we sign) – Marshall, a UGA commit, made some interesting remarks in an interview last week. It is yet to be determined if those remarks were made to just create drama for his announcement or if he has legit interest in UT. We are the only threat to UGA for a flip, but with him visiting UGA this weekend it makes the flip seem less likely. Early Enrollee. (Edit: Marshall Reaffirmed his commitment to UGA.)
We have 16 of our current 20 commits scheduled to sign next week. 8 of those 17 will be early enrollees. This information is fluid, and ALOT of info to gather, so please correct me if you see something wrong.

Lots of 3 stars on the total list. My hope is CJP is one of those types that can get 4 & 5 star performances out of them. If CJP is good with it I will be. Having said that my expectations for product of UT football put on the field has not changed in the slightest.

2 things:
1) Gray is not going to announce/sign until Thursday around noon central time.
2) A. Harris will not sign on ESD. UT wants to make sure his grades are in order. It has been reported that Harris will only take 1 OV (to UT in January) and sign on NSD.

Kind of sucks that Eric Gray and Crouch will possibly be Vols but we won't get any cred on Wednesday. So it looks like Cain and Wright are our only possible adds on Wednesday?

Is that correct?

I didn't think Wright was signing until February either.
