it sucks never being mentioned or high lighted but then after week 5 or 6 somebody will be saying oh my look at the tennessee vols and what they have done after replacing blah blah blah.

We knew it all along!:D

I'd prefer to start the season under the radar. That's when the VOLS have traditional done their best work. Hopefully, the players use the lack of national attention as motivation to kick some a%*. I won't say "national respect" because the team has to earn that first.

I don't get the love for Clemson and Auburn. They are both probably going to be good, but I think both of them are over ranked about 5 spots.

Under the radar is where mediocrity lives. Give me a top 10 ranking any day of the week.

I can see it for Auburn more than Clemson. Clemson, just like every year, will choke down the stretch.

We'll see. My problem with Auburn is that they are coming off a 4 loss year and breaking in a new coordinator and QB. That's not exactly what I look for in a borderline top 10 team.

the vols did their best work with a top 10 ranking to start the season.

Why have an AP poll. It is not part of the BCS anymore so it is meaningless. We might as well publish a Volnation poll.

it had little to do with the ranking itself.....
I thought AP and Coaches are average are used in BCS point system. Am I wrong?
yes.....the AP backed out of the system a couple of years ago and was unceremoniously replaced with the Harris Poll.

All iamsaying is that in recent memory we have done the best when we started highly ranking. There is only one year to dispute it.

Yeah and I had Utah in there for some reason. Just looked it up. Sorry for my error. I am a little hung over.

Correct. They pulled out after the Auburn Utah mess in 2004.

Actually, they pulled out the year before. The AP poll left after they declared USC number one and USC wasnt even in the title game. After the 2004 Auburn mess (which would be Jan 2005), it was ESPN who pulled out....they pulled their name of the coaches poll and started bashing the BCS every chance they got; main reason probably being they made a very strong push for auburn before the title game and the voters/system ignored it.

I really feel ESPN doesn't like the BCS because it takes away their ability to influence the system as much as, say, they do with the heisman and the ap media poll

Probably has something to do with having a better team.
Nobody plays better "under the radar" or when they're the underdog. If they did, they wouldn't be under the radar or the underdog.

LSU at 7?? Thats a joke!! They will drop quickly after that crappy non conf schedule and then get ripped by AU. They may lose 4 games this year. UGA has to tough of a schedule to be thought of as #1.

Are you sure? Did they only have one human poll the next year?

they changed to the coaches poll & the harris poll, which is a collection of selected voters - usually having some thing to do with the college game or football in general,(I think they're kinda like a poor ncaa tourney selection committee who just copies the coaches poll).

However, they had the harris poll made and set up before the following season started, so they had 2 polls

Also, after LSU beat OK, the system got rid of the strength of schedule component (which got LSU to the game) & made each human poll count either 1/3 or more
