We are driving down I-75, about 30 miles from Gainesville and I'm wondering what the volnation has planned for tomorrow. Any gathering locations for pre-game or post?

This is my first SEC road game and first time in Gainesville. Milady and I are staying just a couple miles from campus. Currently, we are planning to just head out in the morning and walk towards the stadium to hopefully find some friendly tailgating parties.

Any general advice on what to check out around Gainesville (bars, restaurants, geography) would be appreciated as well.

Go Vols!

I really don't know how many 'friendly' parties you'll find. Stay away from Gator folk, and anyone in the media. They are the same these days.

I made one trip to Gainesville, and will never be back. I commend you for your bravery, but I wouldn't look too hard for a friendly tailgate, unless they happen to have a Power T on their tent.

Yeah, wasn't planning on approaching gators intentionally. I guess I was hoping there was an area where a bunch of UT fans were setting up.

As a full time resident here in god forsaken gator country, I have to agree with the above posts. They are rude here, and probably won't be friendly. Not sure where any one will be setting up, I've seen a lot of Vols RV's driving around today.. Gives my heart a smile! Have fun, and watch yourself around here!

You're in for a real treat. I've been down there twice.

The best thing you could do -- especially this year -- is find a large group of Vol fans and stay together.

Trust me, you're gonna hear it before gametime.

Let's just assume that your profile page is accurate and that you're 30 years of age.

That means at 30 you're still hung up on ebonics? :birgits_giggle:

gators at their best..now just imagine him wearing jorts

I've been to several away stadiums (not LSU), and I would not put Florida at the top. I've been to games that we've won in Gainesville and Athens, and Georgia fans were a LOT worse. It might've just been luck, but I didn't think the Florida fans were that bad.

Come to find out the comments about Gainesville being a dump are true! Just had to walk out on the hotel reservations at Kings Inn after opening the room to dead cockroaches on the bed spread, hair on the sheets, hole in the shower, mold/mildew on the tiles, sliding door that didn't close completely, leaving a gap for said cockroaches to enter. fyi NEVER stay at the Kings INN. Now we're out trying to find another hotel at 3:00 AM. Unbelievable.

I stayed in Lake City both times. It's only about 30-40 minutes north of Gainesville. If you can't find a room, then I suggest heading back up that way.

Good luck and go Vols!

Ended up getting a great deal on a king suite outside of town about 5 miles at best western. All is well except for the lack of rest for the game. Nothing some alcohol can't fix though.

Excellent advice there....That is what We used to do...Remember there is strength in numbers and normally they won't mess with a large group except for some mouthing off from a distance...Stay safe in that hellhole and bring us back the head of Tim Tebow...Take lots of pictures while your there and share your septic tank uh um Swamp adventure with us all :)
