As an avid Penn State fan, I was anxious to see what the Tennessee reaction would be to the game. I was pleasantly surprised to find a general respect for Penn State on the board, something that our Big 10 brethren seem to lack (see Michigan, for example). I kind of expected the reaction to Coach Fulmer, but again, the level of respect for PSU was completely unexpected.

I find that the generalities that people speak of (SEC speed vs Big 10 power) often don't measue up 100 percent. There were good examples of both yesterday (I never realized Coker was that explosive, while Hunt was solid while never overpowering), but the opposing points could also be found.

All in all I think it was a very even game ultimately decided by the turnovers. It would be nice if the schools could schedule a home/home series down the road (it would be nice to tailgate on the river instead of in the RV!)

Best of luck to the Vols in the future. You guys are a class act and I wish you well (except, of course, if we meet again!)

Let's do it again next year, but with the N/C on the line, how about it?

Same to you. You guys have a solid team. If you can manage to schedule UT for all your games next year, you'll have a first team all american quarterback :)

I thought that the calls were very even.

I have to agree. There were a bunch of calls that both teams could have disagreed with. Most importantly, though, I thought that the number of and delays with all of the reviews took a lot of the natural flow out of the game.

They were. The got the reviews right and the questionable calls pretty much evened out except for maybe the lame roughing the passer call on Turk McBride. But I don't think PSU even scored on that drive.

And a non penn state officiating crew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I've already responded to this . . . but there's just no way you can pretend that bad calls cost us much of anything.

Heh, kinda flies in the face of what the original post in the thread said, huh?

i would still rather them just say "thank you" and move on. Glad to see there are some classy PSU fans though..the ones that were on earlier sucked.

The bad calls, imho, only really came into play on the Meachem call. It killed that drive, but it's really moot overall considering he dropped the ball and our showing the rest of the game.

Congrat to Penn State. I have always liked Jo Pa. I saw the Penn State vs. Tennessee game in 1972 which was the first night game ever payed at Neyland Stadium (UT won 28-21). If my memory serves me correctly Penn State had Lydell Mitchell and John Cappelletti playing then.

Great Coach/great tradition at Penn State.:salute:

Best of luck next year. Feel free to kick butt on UM and OSU! :)

The vast majority of your fans were kind and seemed to appreciate the matchup. Now we'll go back to our middle-of-the-pack status in the SEC and hope for a better bowl performance next year.

Good luck to the Nittany Lions next season.

I'm not saying the refs cost us the game, but the pass interference against Meach was ridiculous. Normally the WR has to rape the DB before they will throw the flag. Instant replay showed he didn't even touch him.
